Seminole PPV Stream/Opinions ??

scooter_banks...Obviously it is not the SPT site. Otherwise NOBODY could get the stream, or even access their site. The problem is something with your computer...could be software or hardware...but it's not the fault of the SPT.

Tried that still does not work. Internet explorer tells me that it is something wrong on seminoleprotour.com side. The site will not even load!

I am going to be probably a bit more candid on this subject than I should be but here goes:

As far as the free vs PPV thing goes. I may have not done as many free streams as some but I guarantee I have lost more money doing free streams than ANYONE.

It doesn't work.

Anyone who tells you different is living on borrowed time and money.

There is certainly a benefit to doing streams free if you can afford it. It will help you build a brand if you have a good product and quality events. The thing is most of those quality events have already shaken out as to who is going to stream them. This argument for free streams is IMO at this point a non-starter.

TAR is out of the 100% free streaming business for one major reason. We want to survive. Personally, hustling for $200-$300 sponsors or trying to sell boxes of product in competition with giant online retailers in order to make enough money to break even is not my idea of a good time. Been there done that.

In my mind the way forward for us and I suspect any other streamers who run it as a business and not a hobby is a mix of free and PPV with the balance weighted in favor of PPV. Such as the first day of a 4 or 5 day event being free to show people what they can buy. Premium events like our TAR matches will be 100% PPV with some free streaming pregame type shows.

Its nothing new. The UFC has figured out niche marketing perfectly. You do PPV's to survive and grow a dedicated following until you reach the point that you have the ability to try and achieve mainstream recognition. Crawl, walk, run. If you can't survive the early stages you can't build anything to let you reach the later stages.

The free streams are great and will always be around at some level done by people who love the game and do it because they can. I do think that most premium events in the future will be streamed for the most part through PPV coverage. I have not seen free audience numbers make any dramatic improvement in the last year or so. I have seen marked improvement in PPV audiences for premium events. This tells me more people are comfortable paying for quality coverage of premium events and I see verifiable proof that more people are watching when everything is done right.

There is still a big shake up coming IMO. We are already seeing more and more people trying to do PPV events. So far with mixed success. This will first saturate the market and probably mean less buyers for each event until the inevitable shake out happens where the best providers with the best events will retain and gain market share while the others simply go away. Its an exciting time in the tiny industry of pool streaming and I think the competition will make the end product much better for the consumer.

I could talk about this stuff all day.

it's not all day (that would have been 288 gigs of video) but Justin does talk about streaming a lot in this interview, among many other things, from the Derby in Jan.

But it is free if you stay in the riviera hotel. So that gives an added benefit for the people that support the riviera.

BTW - all our 9' table will be available for play all night long.

Glad I'm staying at the RIV!! Thank you, Mark, TAR and CSI!

hopefully the progress everyone will see will be evident in the free streams.

I notice that you have over 1,000 posts in this forum. Good luck to you and the entities that entertain your proposal. I know from personal experience that pool needs BETTER MARKETING overall.

I hope whoever runs a stream for $$ makes it work unlike the stream today that worked for 20 minutes today. It went out and did not work again. I contacted multiple people for over 2 hours and still did not work. I watched the tourney ran by bigtruck last weekend for free and had no issues at all!!

Only ignorance could allow someone to make a post like this, especially after I made the following post previous to this one you posted.

Sorry guy, I don't know what else to try. I don't know much of anything about computers and was only going on what I have seen others try in the past. Since no one else is having trouble getting onto the site, it is definitely on your end, I just don't know how. It sounds like a setting inadvertently might have gotten changed or maybe a corrupt file of some sort (I'm guessing).

At this point you need tech help with your computer and that isn't what the SeminoleProTour does. They can only help you with problems you might have with their stream. This is your computer, not the stream.

Sorry you're having so much trouble, I know that I would be very frustrated. Maybe someone with some computer savvy will chime in here. If not, maybe you should call a friend that might know a little more about computers than yourself. Good luck.

Before you blame someone for something and talk badly about their business, you need to educate yourself and be sure you know what you're talking about. You were the ONLY person with this problem. It is on your end so you figure it out but don't blame others for something that is clearly your problem.

I was just reading about snooker audiences that are in the millions of viewers (see below). So why is it that our pool audiences here in the U.S. typically range from 200-2000 viewers?

It seems to me that there is a huge untapped market of pool players that we're just not reaching.

Snooker Scores Massive Viewing Figures

The Betfred.com World Snooker Championship achieved fantastic viewing figures both on the BBC and in China.

The tournament was widely regarded as one of the best in recent memory, concluding in a pulsating final as John Higgins beat new star Judd Trump 18-15 at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.

The peak viewing figure on BBC, which came just after 10pm, was 6.6 million, the best figure in the past five years.

Average audience for the final session was also well up: 3.9 million, over 50% higher than last year.

Over 27.1 million watched the event in the UK - that's nearly half the UK population.

In China, the second session of the Ding Junhui v Judd Trump semi-final was the highest rated sports programme of 2011 to date, achieving an average audience of 19.4 million, peaking at nearly 30 million. In all 55.9 million households tuned in to watch.

During the Championship, six programmes on CCTV 5 in China achieved average audiences of over 10 million, while five had peak audiences of over 20 million. CCTV 5 was one of 7 broadcast networks showing the World Championship in China alone.
