Seminole PPV Stream/Opinions ??

yet another

because you can watch any other sport for free. a better question is why should pool be any different? don't we all want pool to be more mainstream? it will never be as long as you can only watch matches on ppv.

Good point:thumbup:

I'm sorry and I don't like to be a critic, but MORE has to be done to advertise the streams whether they are PPV or FREE. We need more league players to watch these streams. We need new fresh blood watching these streams. We need promoters and commentators to help promote all of these goals.

Joey,

I agree with you 100% as I've expressed similar sentiments in other postings.

There are millions of people around the world who like to play pool that we are not tapping into. With better marketing and publicity, there's no reason why we can't have thousands of people watching these video streams, insteads of just hundreds.

For the upcoming U.S. Open tournament, has anyone from CSI contacted the local and national newspapers and TV stations to let them know about it? Has the press been invited to send a reporter/photographer/tv crew? Will anyone be providing tournament updates to the media before, during and after the tournament? Have flyers been distributed to the local pool rooms?

Without better marketing and publicity, pool isn't going anywhere.

No offense BUT

Wow Mark, LOL, It's not like I said the streamers should ever work for free , I was simply getting some open minded opinions on what people thought about free vs ppv. Trust me if I ever decided to stream a tournament I would consider ppv for sure .The chances of that happening are nill though. What I could not get was the fact that ultimate 10 ball was free and this weekends seminole was ppv .I mean if PPV is the standard I can roll with that but it seems like a roll of the dice on higher end events to whether or not they will be a PPV and of course how that PPV will go.
Wow Matt, I am amazed at your stance on this knowing what it takes to do a live stream. I love it when the streams are free and I think that a lot more people watch and that is good for the sponsors. But when you really think about it if you have a good streamer who has to travel with equipment across the country not everyone can afford to do that for free. Its inexpensive if you are lets say in Tempe, Az and fast lenny is already there and wants to do it for the weekend but what if you want Fast lenny in Detroit? now there is expenses, time off work etc. i don't know how we can EXPECT streams for free unless the streamer is in town already. JMO.

Not trying to bash anything , just curious how everyone feels about paying to watch this event when in the past it has been free and even last weeks big 10 ball event was free.I guess my feelings are that it should be free and the stream could have sponsors /advertising to cover this. Again I am not trying to say its bad or good that it is a PPV.It is what it is . I did my share of free streams basically to get out meet people and get over a relationship ,any money I tried to make was just to cover my gas, food ,and hotel.

I always like to watch the Seminole tournaments and enjoyed seeing one in person when they dropped in NC. And I always enjoyed the quality of your stream Matt. FREE is nice because I can come and go whenever I need to and enjoy the few minutes that I do watch. Charging for a stream probably has its merits, but I won't be watching unless its the US Open.

Since you're taking the PPV route, how many people are paying to watch the tournament?

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how this is any of your business and why you feel the need to practically demand an answer.

What I could not get was the fact that ultimate 10 ball was free and this weekends Seminole was ppv .

The only thing the SPT has in common with the Ultimate 10 ball tournament was that they both played a game of pool on a pool table. Nothing after that can be compared. If I understand correctly, the Ultimate 10 ball was one wealthy man using his own money to put on one tournament (a yr) the way he see's fit. His money, his choice how to present it.

The SPT is a business trying to run a tour, not one tournament. The money isn't coming from one rich benefactor, it is coming from different avenues. Since they have upped the prize fund, they decided to go the ppv route to try to help cover some of that cost.

The SPT & the Ultimate 10 ball - apples to oranges.

The reason why I'm asking is because I suspect that the number of PPV viewers is actually fairly small, perhaps a few hundred or so.

The potential market for pool is huge as there are millions of people who like to play pool. In that context, we need to broaden the market to beyond just a few hundred PPV viewers.

I purchased it and it worked for about 20 minutes. Then it went out and will not come back up. Even the seminole pro tour site does not work for me! Any suggestions????

I agree that there are thousands of league players that would not know Johnny, Shane or Earl if they walked up to them but that still doesn't make the SPT business any of your business. You knowing what they take in on the ppv isn't going to broaden the horizons of thousandss of league players.

Having a lower number of viewers as opposed to past streams is a given. We've all seen it before. At the DCC, TAR can have almost 2000 viewers on a free stream and yet be lucky to get 200 on a ppv in the same night. Some people simply do not have the funds while others just don't want to pay to watch. To each their own.

That will not work for me either. No seminole pro tour link or site will come up at all!

Are you using internet explorer or firefox? Most people say that they have to clear out their cache before they can get it to work.

Send a PM to SeminoloeProTour here on az since you can't email them through the site.

can someone please tell me what the average number of paying customers these events get for ppv?

i owned a marketing company and i'd like to work some numbers. perhaps i could help them obtain some sponsors for future events.

Tried that still does not work. Internet explorer tells me that it is something wrong on seminoleprotour.com side. The site will not even load!

Sorry guy, I don't know what else to try. I don't know much of anything about computers and was only going on what I have seen others try in the past. Since no one else is having trouble getting onto the site, it is definitely on your end, I just don't know how. It sounds like a setting inadvertently might have gotten changed or maybe a corrupt file of some sort (I'm guessing).

At this point you need tech help with your computer and that isn't what the SeminoleProTour does. They can only help you with problems you might have with their stream. This is your computer, not the stream.

Sorry you're having so much trouble, I know that I would be very frustrated. Maybe someone with some computer savvy will chime in here. If not, maybe you should call a friend that might know a little more about computers than yourself. Good luck.

Seminole has too many hoops to jump through...I gave up...:(

While it's important to provide as much money as possible for the prize money pool, I think it's also important to look at the bigger picture. Without a critical mass of fans watching these tournaments, pool will NEVER go big time which is what we all want to happen. We need to allocate money to marketing and promoting pool better, of which free or low-cost video streaming needs to be a critical component of that.

I am no expert but the majority of the US viewers live on the eastern side of the country, which counts me out for west coast streams.....they are way to late in the evening.

The answer to most of your questions (at some point in time) is yes. But this is Las Vegas. There is one gigantic event after another here all year long. One week its the SHOT Show, one weeks its CES, one week its NAB, one week its pool players, one week its dart players, for a month its rodeo and on and on. Local media could give a shit less whats going on in strip casino ball room.

This year Mark paid to run a 30 second ad for three weeks prior to the nationals on cable channels through Cox. It wasn't cheap but he wanted to see what effect if any it would have on spectator turn out and try to get some new traffic for vendors.

Its always easy to say what needs to be done until its time to either find the time to do it or the money to pay for it. Of course there is always more that can done. The question is when you are dealing with finite time and resources what do you NOT do or NOT pay for in order to do something new ?

The people at the CSI office talk about this kind of thing literally every day. It always comes down to the EXACT same thing:

1. WHO has the time, skill and/or knowledge to do it ?

2. What does it COST? Where do we find the money? What do you scrap from the budget in order to pay for it?

The things you talk about are all great ideas. The thing is there is only so much time and money to go around and we run out of both long before we run out of good ideas to spend them on.

Just to give you few examples of where those resources have gone:

- Daily video updates on the general happenings at the event put together by Samm Diep and Holly.

- A professionally created 30 second spot that is running in the Las vegas market on multiple cable tv channels for weeks leading up to the event.

- The live feed of the pro event throughout the hotel and on the tv's in all the rooms

- The above feed in two different 9 foot by 16 foot projection screens. One n the pro arena across from the skyboxes and one in the amateur arena.

-Text updates via your phone for amateur players to let you know when and where your next match is scheduled

- The CTS tournament system that allows anyone, anywhere in the world to track any event at the nationals and see the charts for each one updated at the end of each round. You can also type in the name of the person you are looking for see all of their performances in all current and past events that they played in that used the CTS system. This is a HUGE deal and no one else has anything like it. It has cost a lot of time and money to get right and IMO could be a game changing technology.

There are more and you are right there is always more that can done. I just hope people remember that while that is the case those things that seem easy sometimes are not.

Amen brother. They don't need to make you jump thru hoops to securely pay for and watch a stream. Too bad because the Seminole Tour is doing much good for the game. Hopefully they will refine and simplify their distribution
method in the future.
