Send Mike Wong to the U.S. Open

I donated to a Canadian lady pro to go to China a few years ago. I liked her posting demeanor and decided to help her get there. She was part Native American, as I recall, which I loved. She had a cool website. :)

Well that's because you're awesome. :)

I wish more people around here had a more positive mindset. If they didn't like what one thread was about or didn't like the cause they would scroll by unless they had facts of why the cause was a scam. Facts, not opinions.

To each their own. :)

Since Michael got his sponsorship, let's move on and I will be looking for a sponsor for the BCAPL Open singles next year. I got top 64 three years ago. Was on an Open team that got 4th place two years ago. I'll need airfare - $450. Hotel - $500. Entry -$150. Food - $200. If you want to stake me in the pool tournament and also in playing black jack, I'll need an additional $5,000. I can put you in touch with my host as a reference to my successes in the pit.

Thanks and God, Allah, Buddah, Hare Krishna Bless.

Get a job!

I can't find a link for a gofundme account to donate to. I'd probably just donate to your pool trip as I don't know how you play blackjack. What do you do if you have 9,9 against dealer's 9?

You aren't going to him, he isn't coming to you, why not just let it die.

"Your dead broke and have stake horses so you need my money, I don't need your money and I'm not broke" that really is totally unnecessary

Whats in between Philly and NYC? Just play there for God sakes or stop woffing.

I highly doubt Mike will be back on here woofing up a storm in this thread.
He got what he wanted and I'm sure his handler probably set down some guidelines as part of the deal.
That would be the smart thing to do anyway.

When Mike was a C player, he would practice (among other things) a boring off the rail behind a ball safe 30-40 times in a row or more. I got tired of watching so i dont know just how many. He even continued with the shot after getting it perfect at least 6-7 times in a row.

Im not sure even if SVB has put in more practice time than Mike the last decade and i dont think Mike got 1/10th the free time SVB has either.

As far as i know he has cashed in nearly every Open or perhaps every Open he has played in and i dont expect this year to be any different . Go MIkey!!

No surprise here!

Every time I've seen him at Derby he's putting work in and always treats people with respect from what I've seen.

Heck, I hope he snaps it off!!

As of right now, it looks like he's still $500+ short of his goal. Looks like Mr. Griffin donated the amount of the entry fee, but he is still short on the travel and lodging he was asking for. I think it would be interesting to see him make it to the Open. I'll be looking for his name among the results.

Well, here's the deal. I'm good for the other $250 if he wears a "MAGIC CHALK" patch on his shirt.

If he wears a MAGIC CHALK shirt, I will cover the entire $500. It's a nice professional looking polo shirt, burgundy in color and nice logo on the back.

Of course, he must use Magic Chalk during the entire tourney. I will send the chalk to him first. I don't want to sponsor someone that does not like the chalk. Not fair to him or me. But, if he's in NY just ask Karen Corr if she still loves her Magic Chalk ;)

What do ya say Mike ? You're in the US Open and your sponsored by an American company and now an international company too. Could be the start of something special ;)

RJ this could be interesting. An American man selling Russian Chalk sponsoring a Asian/American to play in a U.S. Open. If I were him I'd get you to send those shirts and chalk and not think twice about it. He could snap it off and make some Russian Magic Chalk commercials for you and everything.

Hey, what do ya know, it is a "global economy" after all ;)

Mike Wong at US Open

FWIW-I have no problem if mike wears 'Magic Chalk' patches on the CSI shirts he will be wearing. I'm ok if he wears 'Magic Chalk' shirts and we send some CSI patches.

There is room for compromise and attaining common goals!

Obviously, mike will have to make the final decision etc. Just letting you know I have no problem.....

Congratulations!

The negative attitudes of the several of the posters in this thread convinced me to sponsor Mike Wong in the US Open. I think Mike Wong is a deserving player. Is he a world beater? Nope. Can he play a little bit- you bet!

He has a good heart, is disciplined, and will give his best shot. Unlike others who have come before to AZ Billiards for ‘help’, Mike will show up for his matches; on time, ready to play. He will be straight and sober. And he will give the game respect and some of the credit it is due.

Some of the posters in this thread should really do a reality check. Where did all this negativity come from? Did your Mom mistreat you as a kid? I mean what the hell causes so much ‘hate’ – not just in pool – but in all phases of life. It is very frustrating and disheartening. This thread has shown what is becoming a terrible pattern on AZ Billiard forums.

Mike Wong came on the forums to ask for assistance to go the US Open. He did not ask to be beat up. It is difficult to ask for help – it is a humbling experience. But instead he was shown disrespect – as was the game. This thread (like so many do) twisted and turned into a woofing contest.

Let’s just say Congratulations to Mike Wong. He is going to the US Open! And I hope he does well. I am sure there are those who will wish ill will to him. But not me!

By the way, this is not the first time I have taken this type of position. Anybody remember Mike Dechaine and the Steinway Classic? Mike D was getting a hard time from several of the ‘top’ players – who seemed to have an attitude towards him (possibly because he didn’t join in Bonus Ball). I thought it was appropriate to help ‘prop’ him up – to let him know that some of us supported him (and pool in general). Bullying has no place in our wonderful game.

I appreciate scttybee and his posts. He seems to have a better compass than many in this thread. JAM and Blackjack had some good thoughts too. This thread is the very reason why I don’t post much anymore. But everyone in a while I guess I feel a little philanthropic. I love this game and will do what I can to keep it on the ‘high ground’.

I think that Mike Wong is a credit to the game. He is educated, honest, and hard working. He is a gentleman. (Did you know he has a Master’s degree?) I have only met him twice over the last 5 years or so. This was not done out of any close friendship. It was done because I think this is the right thing to do. Actions speak louder than words – and I hope some of the negative people learn to be a little more understanding and show some compassion and insight. You know – if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all?

Mark Griffin

Yeah, neat.

This guy comes on here because some of us have something he wants--money.

How many times has he come on here helping us with something we want--to better our games?

Hi ChicagoRJ,

I would be honored to represent "Magic Chalk" at the U.S. Open. I have tried Magic Chalk before, and it is a very high-quality chalk, and results in very few miscues. I would be delighted to be sponsored by such a quality product. Mark Griffin and CSI are my first major sponsor and I want to ensure that I show them respect, and represent them fully. With that being said, I would be happy to wear a "Magic Chalk" patch during the event. I am looking forward for good things to come.

Best Regards,

Michael Wong

This thread should go to the AZ Hall of Fame of threads....for reasons on so many levels. I now know the meaning of "winning the Internet"..OP deserves a dos equis, I'll splurge for that. Is Paypal ok?

Hi AZB Community,

I typically have very thick skin, and I am not bothered easily. However, the amount of negative comments I received was slightly disheartening. Nevertheless, I realized or was reminded that there are a lot of good people out there in the pool community. I also made a similar post on Facebook, and I was surprised by the amount of interest in offering a hand. There were people who came out of the woodworks to show their support. Some of them I had only briefly met, and were from different countries such as Ireland and Philippines. And now possibly a billiard chalk manufacturer in Russia. I had only met them briefly yet, they respected my abilities enough to support me in competing in the U.S. Open. Also, I was touched by my friends and supporters on AZBilliards, they came to my defense, and had some nice words to say about my abilities, and my character as a person. I want to thank anyone who has stood by me and supported me, whether it be financially, or with verbally with words of encouragement. I want AZBilliards and the pool community to know that there are still good people out there who are a credit to the game, and I hope they still support pool, and the game we love.

I want to say especially a big thank you to Mark Griffin and CSI for giving me a shot to compete in this year’s event.

Hopefully, Magic Chalk will still be interested in sponsoring me. This is going to be an awesome U.S. Open.

Thanks to all,

Michael Wong

well done, Mark. so what's the over/under on BB's head splitting the minute he sees your CSI shirt???? :yikes:

FWIW, i'm sure there were others who would have normally contributed & been more supportive. perhaps they can't pay their own bills due to job loss, or have been ill/hospitalized & unable to work, house in foreclosure, etc. normally AZBers step up to the plate when they can, for those in need.
