Send Mike Wong to the U.S. Open

Thank you. Some of the forum members asked for a recent video. So, I was finally able to get it for them.

How have you been hitting 'em, Mike?
Any details on your practice regiment leading up to the Open?

Do you have a sparring partner or are you playing the ghost a ton? Been getting down your break with the new accu-rack?

This is all very interesting.

Hi Cardigan Kid,

I've been hitting them good. I'm working on my fundamentals a lot, and trying to make sure they are in place when the pressure is on. Todd Fleitman from New Jersey offered to help me with my game before the Open, so I gladly took him up on his offer. He pointed out that my alignment was slightly off. So I've been working on correcting that. (For those of you who don't know Todd Fleitman. He has a high run of over 300 balls in straight pool, and is a great billiards coach and instructor. I respect his opinion a lot, and if he has something to tell me, I am all ears.)

The last few days I also reviewed the matches that I got from Upstate AL, trying to see what other parts of my game needs work.

I ordered a accu-rack so I am practicing with that also, it is a little challenging with the 9 on the spot.

I don't have a surplus of games available in NYC. Sometimes I practice with my friend Lee Kang, who is a very solid player from Korea. Hopefully before the Open I will be able to hustle some Filipinos to play me some cheap sets, so I can get some serious practice in.

There are a lot of tournaments coming up, so it will help me get in stroke. This weekend will be the New Jersey State 9-ball at Sand Castle, the following week will be the Gotham City Billiard Club Classic, then the U.S. Open, and then the Steinway Classic. So this will be a very busy month. I want to make sure that my game will peak at the right time.

Could you elaborate on this a bit more? I am interested in your thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

Mike, I like your style! Keep up the due diligence and enjoy each moment of the journey.

Hi couldnthinkof01, in my opinion you can only be on top of your game for a certain period of time. Therefore I want to make sure I am near my peak at the right time and not before or after. If you seen the movie "Pumping Iron," the body builders discuss peaking cycles, and how they try to be in their best shape right before a competition.

JoeyA, thank you for the compliment as always!

Mike I'm not gonna lie, when this thread started i am naturally leary of people looking for sponsors. But after watching you play jason that finals it is obvious you can play and i wish you well in the open. Alot of people in the open are sponsored(backed) and it just isn,t known by the general public.runout.

Mike,

It's official. Payment sent via PayPal, you work for me now ;)

Will mail chalk and a couple of shirt patches tomorrow.

This is gonna be fun. Can you imagine having Wedge and you in the FINALS

Good Luck, RJ

This made me laugh - reminded me of the nice mob boss guy who would always drive up next to Rocky on the street and toss him some training funds.

You are are officially the muscle behind the scenes!

All dressed up and ready to go!

Big thanks to:

Mark Griffin and CSI
ChicagoRJ and Magic Chalk

I don't know if the brackets for the US Open will be posted on AZ. So, in between matches can you keep us posted who you're playing.

Rooting for you, and have a safe trip.
