What is the best conditioner and cleaner available for pool cue shafts? My hands are usually sticky when i play and i am consistently cleaning my shaft with a lighty damp cloth..Is Slip Stik a good product or does someone have a better idea...Thanks...Don

90% alcohol and no treatment.... just burnishing. Anything you use to treat the shaft will leave it sticky or more apt to get sticky. I've tried everything on the market. Go to the hardware store, get 90% alcohol and that's all you need. Maybe a sheet of 1000 grit sandpaper to rub the shaft one or two repititiions and then leather to burnish. Done, slick and beautiful gloss. Oh... wash your hands!

This is not really a bad idea, and really what I do. I wipe my 314 shafts with alcohol at least once a week, with no problems.

I also use Slipstic, but I don't know how much this stuff is really doing for me.

I used Slipstick and it's the best I've used but using no coating is better. Just clean w/alcohol (90%.... less water in it) and then burnish. Maybe sand a TINY bit just to knock down any raised pores, then burnish the hell out of it w/a leather patch.

I'm not an expert. I'm just a guy that HATES anything but a perfect shaft. It's gotta be perfect or I can't play with it.... too distracting. Everything I've used to coat the shaft and make it slick ends up making it sticky. Slipstic is the best but clean and burnished is best. Wash your hands.

On a semi-related note, I tried those Q-Smooth strips just recently. A league teammate had them lying around, suggested I try'em, so I did. Dang but if they didn't work like a champ. Picked up a set of my own yesterday.

works for me

I do this and it seems to work well. I have tried slipstic and various things but haven't found any of the magic slick'ms to work well in the high humidity here. One thing I have done is applied plain cue wax with heat before burnishing. This seems to get the wax down into the wood and a quick wipe with a barely damp paper towel followed by burnishing with a piece of leather puts me back in business when things get a little gummy at the pool hall.

I am going to try some of the products to keep my bridge hand from sweating as much. I think that will give the most improvement.

For 18 years I have used Alcohol, 2000 grit Sand paper and a peice of leather or brown paper bag to burnish the shaft. I have tried all the products that have been listed in this thread and I have not been happy with the results. I'm not saying they don't work, they just don't work as good.

If you look at the cost, these cleaner/conditioners are very expensive.

for 10 bucks I can buy a bottle of alcohol and 3 packs of 2000 grit sandpaper and this will last for about 2-3 years.

I have used and publicly endorsed SlipStic for over 2 years now. It is a great product - slicks the shaft and protects it at the same time.

If your hands continue to get sticky, invest in a glove. It only takes a little getting used to and the shaft runs smooth through your fingers every single time.

(Kudo's to John Schmidt for talking me into using the glove again) - I still use the SlipStic also - visit their website for more info.

Where can you get this stuff with the leather burnish? I can't find it anywhere and the phone # on their web site is out of order.
