shaft tapering and taper bars

Ok, u got me. At least don't compare me to roscoe..

I have personally seen and hit with a couple of SK's cues he made....I hit with his most recent cue and I can tell you that his cue will hit just as good as anyones. When he gets his technique down, he will be very sought after..id bet money on it.

I know Sung, he is not trying to talk down to anyone...what he is saying is do research first....then build a cue. He jumped in with both feet and made some mistakes. He is just trying to help the OP by giving some advice and maybe saving him some time....But, alot of people are like me.....jump in with both feet, then learn how to swim...I think making mistakes and learning from them is an invaluable tool...but thats just me.

Sung is absolutely a great guy. He will not steer you down a wrong path. He is does not in any way have a huge ego...he is learning as he goes...

You guys are right. Maybe I was a little thin skinned and took it too personal. Sorry to all.
In the end let's hope the op got the info he was looking for and it's helpful to him.
Hey, no problem! I hope you're able to relax, and post without any regrets. :)
First thing is to not take things too seriously, and add a grain of salt to everything you read. ;)
It is extremely easy to take things the wrong way when nobody is face to face...

My take on taper bars, etc. is that if you're going to be serious about building cues, and serious about taking good care of your customers, and offering them a robust and reliable service, you need some means of consistency and repeatability in your tapering methods. Bottom line, right there...
CNC is the nuts, with results varying as you go down the line...
Ask yourself if you are going to be truly "custom" and offer unlimited tapers, or if you are going to stick to one taper that you feel is going to define your cues, and stay away from custom shaft building, etc.

Pretty much, you can do it a few ways....either sand the shafts down to get your taper....but that is not sonsistant from one shaft to the next

Or, the way to get a consistant taper on shaft after shaft is to have a taper bar...that way your shafts will be all the same.

thanks for all the responses...one more quick question i'll post here instead of starting a new thread on it. What is a good cutter (that won't break the bank) for my router to make passes on shafts and where can I locate them?

Yes, my facts are straight. Leon knows it. Others know it, too...

So Roscoe, what does Leon have to do with this thread?
As far as I know he hasn't posted in it yet.
Care to spill what you think you know.

Leon has absolutely nothing to do with this thread. SK was just trying to help, Ross took it the wrong way, starts bashing on SK for being a smartass and having a huge ego " i know SK and he doesnt have an ego and is not really the smartass type of guy"

All SK was doing was trying to be helpful in what he has learned in the short time he has been making cues, nothing more, nothing less.

Trust me, I wish I was able to make it this year.... Because something tells me your testicles would shrivel back up into your vagina in person.
