A year ago I sent a cue off to a customer he called me right away and said one shaft was warped? I had him send the cue back and I returned his money. But when I got the cue back both shaft where straight?
I never said anything to the customer because I really thought he was returning the cues becaues of another reason !

The other day I decided to install a moori on one of the cues i have for sale.
The shaft is warped. and im a little pissed at myself thinking I have done something wrong, in how i stored the cue. right away i check all the other cues and shafts in my dealer case. It is just the one shaft.

I needed to drop off some other things to Tom coker so tuesday I spend part of the day in toms shop. and I hand tom the warped shaft and he rolls the shaft on a pool table and he says mike there is a tiny tiny roll to the shaft, and kinda gave me the look like im nit picking this cue.
I rolled the shaft and had to triple check to make sure it was the right shaft
which it was but now the shafts isnt warped.
I am asking tom how is that possible he didnt answer.
and time was short had to cover alot of business in a short time.

I had this shaft chucked up in my lathe , i had rolled this shaft on a flat surface.
it was warped it wouldnt even roll on a table in northern nevada.
and i take it to sac cal and its straight .

I feel like im going nuts, but I would bet my life on that the shaft was extremely warped.

A shaft is a piece of wood and is effected by humidity, barametric pressure and who know what else. I had the same thing happen to me when I took a bunch of cues made in Memphis down to New Orleans. They were all warped. When I got them back and let sit for a few days they were all straight again.

Even when you build a cue in your area and sell it in your area it still changes from day to day. I have sold cues and the person comes back a few days latter and says the shaft has a wabble. I tell them this is natural and keep checking it every day. They come back in a couple of weeks and tell me that it is crazy but it went back to being straight.

I have not seen one yet that would roll perfect everyday.

I bought a full splice butt blank to make a SP. I got it in December and just hung it up. About a month later I got it down to work on it and it had a 1/4 inch bump when I rolled it on the table. I was pissed off and hung it back up and forgot about it.

I checked it in June and it was perfectly straight. I immediately bored and cored the full butt. It is still straight a year later and plays great.

It's wood and it will move if it has internal stress.

i sent 6 cues to a buddy in lake havasu city from mid missouri couple years ago, and after a couple days in a mail truck in hundred degree weather 4 of the 6 were crooked when they arrived. he sent them back and a short time later they were all straight.
i sent a dead straight cue to a guy in idaho last week, he pm's me telling me that when rolled on his table the tip lifts 1/8 of an inch.
in the past this would make me mad, now i just accept the fact that wood is organic, and susceptible to different weather conditions.
i thought i had this problem licked when i started using 50 year old wood, but no such luck.

That is why shafts should be sealed at the end of the process, to reduce moisture movement in service.
