Shane - Best Tournament Performance Ever

"All hail Shane Van Boening!"

-Jim Wysch

When Shane won the US Open

More deserving words now.

Shane may not be the only be the best American player, he may be the best pool player in the world. If he isn't the best in the world already, he may soon be.

Who said American pool is dying?

Now, if Shane can motivate some other American players, maybe we can give those Europeans a run for their money in the Mosconi Cup.

Definitely an awesome accomplishment. SVB is the best American player without a doubt.

For all you people who keep saying hes the best in the world, in the TAR podcast he says clearly who the best player in the world is.

He is a humble and very kind champion.
We Americans are lucky to have a player of his caliber representing us!

you certainly cannot deny true talent when you see one. Congratulations to SVB, a truly one of kind individual.. The best performance in DCC history.

When it's all said and done, he will be remembered as one of the top 5 best all around players who ever lived. ;)

Sean, I can't remember whether it was the TAR interview or somewhere else that Shane was asked about 14.1, but my recollection of his answer is that he doesn't play it simply because he doesn't see any money in it.

Absolutely correct, that was exactly what Shane said.

So, if 14.1 wants SVB to participate, put a pork chop around your neck, he'll come get it.

Congrats SVB on a brilliant performance.

Best,
Brian kc

Jay Helfert said during the Accu Stats commentary tonight that Shane had ran 160 balls in 14-1 and felt bad about the low number.- Jay told him that only a few players in the world ran over 160-Leonard

I guess that "a few" is a relative term, but here is a list of over 100 of the 200 ball runners that still walk around today.

In a discussion as to whether Shane's 2012 DCC performance was the best or one of the best tournament performances ever, I think it would be helpful to look at his path through each of the three events. So I'm posting that here, round by round, including the few match scores that I know (from streaming). Shane's 4 losses in these events are marked with an "(L)."

[Note that Shane also entered the 10-ball challenge and lost 9-15 to Bustamante in the first round, and Shane did not enter the 14.1 event.]

That's called domination.

Unfortunately, it only lasts one tournament and then it starts all over again.

2012 What's next 4 Shane?

I hope that someone can keep us informed as to Shanes next
events.

I'm pretty sure you will be able to see him play on the livestream April 19-22 at 4 Bears Classic in North Dakota.

I hope we don't have to wait that long. Didn't TAR mention something about SVB vs Efren in the works?

If I'm not mistaken, Shannon Daulton won two events in the same year also.

Nope. Reyes is the only one other than Van Boening to win 2 of the 3 main events in the same year -- one-pocket and 9-ball in 2005.

Daulton's wins were banks in 2000, 9-ball in 2001, and 9-ball in 2003.

This info is on the DCC website.

How about Shane at Jay Swanson Memorial or Reno Bar Table

Thanks Joey, hope something on the horizon in the west before then!!

Tx for sharing SVB's path in each tourney....

I didn't know that he beat efren in both one hole and banks...

What a murderers row he faded in 9 ball too btw... Raffy, Stevie x2, Morra, Henney, Putnam, Daz, Alex, Douche-aine, Stevie (revenge).... Pretttty strong folks....

I don't think 3 finals will ever be repeated.... Short race formats and enormous fields loaded with talent make this nearly impossible....

Wouldn't we all be saying impossible if we didn't just witness SVB achieve this amazing feat???

Truly a class act and great inspiration this man has been to our beautiful, dying game.... It's nice that he is a fellow american.... But I'd feel no different about SVB regardless of race/creed/color/country....

Thanks Leonard 4 the heads-up.

Who knows Efren and Francisco may also come up to Reno from LA.

Keepin my fingers crossed !

Noel
