Shane carries ten shafts !

Seems a bit much!

I think he is inaccurate about the length and weight- with a 6 inch extension it makes the cue 64 inches and I think it weighs around 23 ounces (the extension is 4 ounces)

Shane told me that only two of the shafts are play shafts. The other 8 shafts are decoys actually made out of lead. Between pool, fishing, and travel he doesn't have a lot of time to workout, so he carries a approximately 50 pound-filled case to compensate;)

Shane uses the same chalk and bridge I do!

I was a bit surprised that his "spares" are not duplicates of his primaries. Also surprised at how much he had in that bag, it doesn't look very big.

I only carry 9.

Here is my light day setup.

Well we had this guy who was a Bar Hooper Truck Salesmen, his casesold Cues with 1 or two shafts, gloves, Chalk, tip tools, and a few other accessories was a 12 x 24, then he had light set 6 X 12. He sold a lot of Cues and accesories to earn some extra income.

First time i met D. Matlock he was Meucci guy. He had a Gambler butt and 15 shafts. I asked why and he said good tip guys were hard to find then (mid '80s) so he just carried a wad of lumber with him.

Jump cues add another level of gear to the game for sure. I kick on my table rather than jump. That's just out of the care of my rails. Anyway, Shane I am sure makes use all of his kit. I will say it's interesting to see how many pro players have gone back to wood for their main playing cue. I have seen quite a few. I reach for my maple mezz way more than my carbon predator.

Here is a guy who a strong argument could be made for being the greatest ever and he plays with whatever cues his sponsor hands him that they are wanting to push (including being made from all variety of materials from wood to fiberglass to carbon fiber, and with different ferrule and joint materials, etc, etc), and he doesn't have a clue what weight he has or likes, or how long they are, or any of that. And then you have lots of amateurs that are worried about the balance point to the quarter inch or the weight to the tenth of an ounce or have to have a certain joint or ferrule etc. While I think there is something to picking what meets your preferences, most of these things are probably way less important than we try to tell ourselves they are.

I'm pretty good at deciphering your posts. but what the heck is a "Bar Hooper Truck Salesmen?"

I remember the first time seeing Dave was I'm guessing in the early 90's at Shooters tournaments in Olathe. IIRC At he was playing with the rose Mcdermott D series cue.

That is so true. Our local room is typically filled with guys that probably have at least a couple thousand in cues, cases, clothing and other stuff. A lot of them struggle to find money to get in a 20 dollar tourney. I understand struggling-I’m accustomed to that, but I play about like them……might make 5 balls or miss one straight in…..doesn’t make any sense to me!

He probably learned to carry that many from Earl. Back in the day the Pearl carried a bunch but it was probably because he was likely to break one or two if he got upset.

Honestly, with all the international travel he does for months at a time, who could blame him? I would definitely rather be with extras than 1 short.
