Shane Van Boening v Alex "the Lion" Pagulayan

Shane is the hottest American player in pool right now. The kid is an absolute monster who prepares viciously for every match and never lets up. Honestly, he may be having the most dominant tournament streak of any American player in the last 15+ years.

Alex is a champion with incredible talent and absolutely no fear. After losing to Shane at DCC this year, he stalked him for the next month and won every match-up. Alex's nickname comes from his ferocity as well as his heart, this man will not give up until the 100th 10-ball has fallen.

I haven't seen a single action thread about this match yet.

This is not a woofing thread, nor even an action thread. I posted so everyone could discuss if this is a you-pick-em even up match or if there is a favorite.

This match may be best for pari-mutual betting as I am certain not all action could get covered otherwise.

Please refrain from posting betting offers until the actual action thread is posted. I will post one after the line is confirmed.

Bump in case anyone hasn't voted yet. Again, please no woofing until closer to the match, but right now Alex is the definite favorite. If you disagree, vote for Shane.

Don't forget that Nick Varner won half the tournaments on the pro tour in 1989 (I think he won 8 of 16 pro tournaments that year).

I am a fan of both players. So! this is tough. I would love to see our very own Shane to win but Alex might just have the edge.

coin flip, i lost betting on Alex at the Derby, then Alex beat him at JOB's. From what I see its a -110/-110 bet all day long.

Would be great to see this match live or streamed. Maybe ESPN would get there head out of there A$$$$$$$$$ and get this match on TV, LIVE,. Have a bunch on infomercials promoting both players weeks before the match would be great. I know, I know, I am dreaming, LOL

Anyway, if this goes off, I will watch for sure. Great Post.
SVB is the man for sure.

svb vs ap

Depends a little on what they play and for how long- Races to 100. Shane and the youth will help. Shorter stuff favors Alex, I think Alex does have the edge. I watched the match ups at dcc, Alex was a little short but he won all the match ups since then. like the other poster said few yrs. it might be hard to pick alex over shane. put some money in Alex's pocket, instead of backers, and I think the lion will return. Its always about the cash. I'd like to see it for about 100,000. race to 120. like efren and Earl few yrs. back

Just added up SVB's tournament winnings alone and it was $115,000 something in 2007 and he's won nearly $50,000 in 2008 so far so I guess there is money in pool as long as you practice REALLY hard and you probably have to have some natural talent too huh?

Anyone know how much they take out in taxes? Is it the same as any other job?

I think automatically 30% is taken for taxes, or around there. For the tournaments that don't take the taxes outta the winnings - it would all depend on if the player claims it on taxes and what tax bracket it would put them in, right? And don't forget that they usually pay for their own travel expenses - especially in the US.

Alex made that kinda money back a couple or so years and believe me - the expenses just in travel alone is close to half of what he made. Don't let me even start on the taxes.

But, bad management of money and especially non-preformance is what leaves most players broke and scrounging no mtter how good they are. On any given day anyone can win - there is so much competition and that is why I think it is hard (except for Efren) to keep on making that 6-digit income.
