If Jay Helfert gives me 100 to 1 odds I will put up 100.00 and bet on Earl and if Earl wins I get 10,000.00.

For 100 to 1, I'll play Shane some. Come on. Everyone may be too harsh on Earl. At least he is stepping in the box (or maybe not, as some have mentioned and remains to be seen). I will give him credit for that. Obviously, the sentimental buffs want Earl to win, but no one is going to place a serious wager on it. Maybe we should let the subject drop till it's over.

But this might kill the publicity for TAR, and they say all publicity is good publicity, maybe. There have been too many posts and threads already for a match that everyone here pretty well believes is a lock.

Anyone thinking Earl can win, please place a bet with anyone here... Take your pic of anyone pretty much. In fact, go to the member directory, scroll, pick a name at random and I think you got a bet.

Overkill, this is like hyping Tyson v. Robert Colay

No offense to The Action Report, Mike Gulyassy, or Earl. Just everyone else needs to get on with it.

You are entitled to your opinion, and I am entitled to mine.

I don't base my opinion on sentimentality. I believe with all my being that Earl Strickland has a chance to win, for all the reasons I have stated in the other threads.

If you think this topic is overkill, then why on earth would you create yet another thread about it? Geezy peezy.

Sarcasm to be precise. [edit, with my apologies to JAM]

Sarcasm, my dear lad, sarcasm.

I'm a lass, not a lad. You must be a stranger 'round these parts.

Hey, I got an idea. Do you wanna play my boyfriend some? He ain't hit a ball in a year. Y'all can play even. So let's twist it around a bit and get some action going, if that's what you're looking to do.

We'll get the 100-to-1 odds, being that you've hit balls in recent times. Now, that's a deal! Just let me know when and where!

JAM, i dont believe he has any idea who you or your Boyfriend are... he's not a bad guy at all, he's just stuck his foot in his mouth on this one.

Cool. We may need to form a backers committee. So you're in.

Let's stack it up as high as the Georgia pine. I'm going to see if I can find my boyfriend's cue. I think he's got it nestled safely in its case.

Now, now Jam.....that is just cruel. LOL

No one on Earth can doubt Earl's ability to win this set. That much is absolute. 90% is Earl deciding he wants to battle --- and get that ferocity back. That eye of the tiger he once had for so many years to many opponents dismay. I for one hope he does.

Aw, shucks. That's a shame because, you see, I'm kind of sentimental when it comes to action, and I'd like to accommodate the young fellow.

I long for the day I can sit on the rail all night long with no sleep, watching a couple of players move balls around on green felt. Ain't nothing better. They don't call me Railbird Jam for nothing.

Now JAM, to be fair, I believe what he is asking is are you willing to put your money down on Earl.

I too am a big Earl fan, but after what I witnessed in Chesapeake, no way would I bet on Earl without serious weight.

Possibly...but the Earl of today is not the same as yesterday. Earls best chance at winning might be if he goes off throwing a fit and he intimidates the kid. I believe Shane has the character to fade that scene though. Earl tried to throw a fit in Waynesville and intimidate the 13yr old Pendley kid...when that didn't work & Adam kept running out, Earl unscrewed & left. Earl has as much talent as anyone who ever played...period. Its his mind thats not right. He's proven that over & over again. Shane might be wise to bring a few front row thugs to keep Earl acting like a gentleman. I on the other hand, am going to bet the entire Varney estate (both trailers;) ) on Shane...I'm going to watch live...with a bag of chips in hand...LOL!!!:D

Wow did this thread misfire. This was posted whole-heartedly as a light joke due to the seriousness of a couple others on here about the same subject.

I have already commended the effort of both Earl and Mike. I do not believe I have ever met JAM nor her boyfriend. I have already edited the post, which also was light-hearted. I certainly was not woofing.

My original post was in response to the 100 to 1 odds requested on Earl's match. And honestly, I'll bet that $100 at 100:1 against any champion that happens to be in town and wants to play me, and it's worth it to me to play a good player. I can't win and could care less about the game or the odds. The point is we all play pool either for joy or profit, or both. I assume everyone here feels the same.

I'm just responding to the last comment the young lad made about everybody needing to get with it. I'm willing to give him a little action. Shane Van Boening's going to be tied up for the next month or two. So why not let's get ready to rumble. I'm game.

Let me share a little something with you about Earl. He's still got a little fire left in his jug, and I'd like nothing better than to see him ignite that spark in Louisville.

Everybody wants to ride on the coattails of a winner right after the U.S. Open. They're going to be flocking around this young champion big time, and he won't have a moment's rest, much less play Daniel Hill.

So I'm giving Daniel Hill action.

Varney Baby, for every Earlism you can cite, I can cite one better.

His recent win at the Carolinas Open was superb in a strong field, and one-pocket ain't even Earl's game. Let's not forget his rise to the semi-finals at the 2005 U.S. Open.

I've seen many a champion pool player rise to the task when push comes to shove. This ain't no tournament. It's a one-on-one match. Earl is a veteran and has the capability to win. I just refuse to rule it out.

Enjoy your chippies. :D

Just because this has rubbed you such the wrong way, I will wager $100 to $1 with JAM now. Which I said was ridiculous to begin with. Since I am giving up such odds, I will ask for 2 stipulations.

1. Earl must win to collect, not by forfeit.
2. If the match doesn't happen or Earl loses, I want my $1.

Whoa now, my little sugar mouse! I might make you post that whopping wager ahead of time. I don't want to have to travel down there to Ohatchee and run you down to collect my winnings. Do you have PayPal?

Certainly, I would expect the same in return then. I wouldn't want to get air barrelled for $1.

You can rest assured, legitimately (with the stipulations mentioned) you can win $100. I am relatively new to the forum, but not to action. The bet is legitimate as long as you agree. I can provide references, which shouldn't be that hard since I am quite open about who and where I am.
