Judging from the first several racks, I'd say Shane, who leads 4-2, is in dead stroke. Dennis Hatch is a world beater, but it looks like he'll have no room for error in this one.

Trailing 6-3, Hatch just managed to steal rack 10. Shane had him on the ropes, but two solid kicks by Dennis, followed by a failed two-way bank by Shane, gave Dennis an opening, and he made a nice run-out to pull to within 6-4. No doubt, Shane will view the rack as one that got away. Let's see if the momentum turns or not.
 
I didn't much care for Hatch's pushout in rack 11, and Shane wisely gave it back. Dennis didn't sell out, but it looks like Shane will dictate the play in this rack.

.... Another two way shot has gone astray for Shane, but Hatch missed right back and left Shane a slight masse, that he missed, so Hatch got ball-in-hand. He missed shape on the eight ball, but shot it anyway, when a safety might have been a better idea. The pool gods smiled on him, when his miss led to a lucky snooker. So Hatch won a rack in which he made two significant errors and he's pulled to within 6-5 ...... these last two racks were straight form The Twilight Zone.

Hatch broke dry and Shane's tactical play let him down again, as his missed a fairly simple safety and gave Hatch a chance to win control of the table. When Hatch managed to earn his chance, he played a sold sequence ending with good shape onto a five-nine combo, which he came with to tie the match a six. Now it's just a dumb old race to three.
 
With Hatch leading 7-6 entering rack 14, Dennis made a ball on the break but had to push, and gave Shane an opening. A fine shot at a long two ball gave Shane control of the table, but Shane lost control of his pattern. Still, Shane's fine bank shot on the eight ball ensured that the match would be tied at 7-7, with the players taking a short break.

Shane made no mistakes running the last two racks for a 9-7 victory. On reflection, his offensive execution was rock solid in this one, but his tactical play wasn't as sharp as it might have been, and he may have to tidy it up a bit to snap off this event.

What Browser?

I'm using firefox and it's flawless. I was using ie but switched a while back.

Thanks for the color commentary SJM, great stuff.

Sadly I just missed catching the last couple of games, but I watched him in Texas online the other night and his offense was perfect for two sets. I don't think he ever played a defensive shot that I saw, but he never missed and never failed to run out when at the table that I saw. (I missed a few games in the middle)

So I find it interesting to hear that his strategy/defensive play cost him a few games in this one. I think that may be the only way to beat him because I don't think anyone can run with him right now.

Good analysis here. I'm thinking the same. Shane got a little sloppy when he led 6-2 (missed an easy two ball) and let Dennis back into the match. Dennis won five games in a row to lead 7-6. Shane played very good the last two racks but it appears that Mika may be the man to beat this week. Shane has to step it up to win this one.
 
Karen and Sarah finished in the top 24 (17-24th). Allison made top 16 (13-16th). Not too bad in a field of 128. If all the top women played regularly in open events, we would be seeing them finish in the top ten. And who knows, Allison or Karen or Kelly or ?? might just win one.

To me this IS the future of pool, and what could make it mainstream. Men and women competing on the same playing field, with no handicap whatsoever.

True, very true. We had a large local tourney and Allison beat all the local talent...beat Stevie Moore 9-2...then double dipped Tommy Kennedy to win the event. Funny...I bought her in the auction AFTER they had taken 6 or 7 others in the blind bids.:grin:
