Shane's racking "trick"

I am also a fan of DO but at the last Swanee he pattern racked and soft broke, neither of which were allowed.

I also donlt understand why a neutral racker is not used.

Look all pros in the tournament know the rack trick SVB uses, yet they fail to imitate; this is like someone knows what is needed to be done to draw the CB up-table and down, yet they cannot do it? SVB spends lots of hours practicing, and his hard work is showing, not cheating! for God's sake!

How about in a MAJOR tournament, being played on only 9 tables, we have trained neutral rackers? It seems so freaking obvious.

I realize that having enough people qualified to do it properly is a challenge, but for just 9 tables it shouldn't be that daunting. Jay is the TD, and there isnt anyone more qualified to make sure said people knew their stuff, well enough to do the job.

I remain baffled as to why this hasn't been implemented.

+1
Neutral rackers also look better than players racking themselves which is just silly and puts down players. When I read folks say that players like racking themselves I was shocked. Now i know why :D

Also Shane beat up on KO pretty bad at the CSI invitational. You seem to forget that.

Not exactly. Here are the facts:
Ko Pin Yi beat Shane in CSI challenge match race to 21
Ko Pin Yi beat Shane in CSI 10 ball match
Shane beat Ko Pin Yi in CSI 8 ball semifinal
So score is Ko Pin Yi 2 Shane 1

Ko Pin Chung beat Shane in CSI 8 ball final
So score is Ko Pin Chung 1 Shane 0

As Efren would say, the Ko brothers were just lucky

:D

Racking

I read all of these threads.
Same problem every year.

Please tell me the definition of a 'soft break'. - one that is not open to 'interpretation' and can be uniformly enforced. Sometimes things are said that just cannot be enforced. SOFT is not a quantifiable definition.

And just 'any' neutral Racker is not the solution either. It has been tried and the players preferred not to continue with a ref racking - they wanted to rack them.

Remember- this is a 9 BALL tournament. 9-ball has slop and a lot of other things. 10-ball or American Rotation are different games. But this is 9-ball!!,!

There's what 9 tables???

get a tablet with a break speed app on it and ask for volunteers...

Over 19mph, legal...under 19mph illegal....

problem solved, no cantankerous rules to try and manipulate results...no question about soft break...

Make sense.

The stream is on and SVB is practicing breaking and warming up for his match.

Jay walks over and tells him basically to stop fingering the rack and that if he has trouble racking he will help him.

hhmmmmm....

With all the controversy surrounding it, I think SVB wants to win more than ever now to quite those who think he can only win if he can manipulate the rack...

Why not make them hit every ball they shoot a certain speed too  the break is a shot they should be allowed to shoot their shot however they want. Soft break or crush it. ... they shouldn't be told how to shoot any shot including the break. You play to win. ..

You can't say that if Dechaine didn't play....he's having an excellent year.
Also, the KO brothers aren't here so anything is pure specualtion. If they are all powerful, where are they? At home.

Shane has been everywhere this year. Its a marathon for the points, not a sprint. I for one would like to see the KO brother's put in the time to go to everything.

Also Shane beat up on KO pretty bad at the CSI invitational. You seem to forget that.

You mean after Shane was eliminated and Ko thought he was getting a by then Shane got a get out of jail free card to play for a 3 loss ,, that could be why their not hear ,

They would be a clear favorite over MD and that's not pure speculation that's a fact

Good one Jaden, i tell you what, if Table manufacturers do not improvise and add good electronics, auto scoring, gamings, ball counts, score screens, ....etc, China will jump on the wagon and eventually bring the basic old mentality table industry in the US down!

Breaking

I will agree - to a degree. But there are soooo many variables. Did the 'speed police' put the cueball in the proper place to make sure the reading is accurate?

What if the speed break operator was not paying attention and the player broke the balls? And it was a terrific break, but appeared slower? And the breaking player ran out. And it was hill-hill?

What would be the protocol for having a speed app 'make' a player break again or to pass the table to the other player.

Sorry- but I see a LOT of potential problems. Now the results of a tournament could be determined by whether a break is speedy enough! What happens if breaker miscues and the balls are hit at under the speed requirement? Rebreak? Lose the break?

.

Always good to hear your slant on things, Mark, as you bring such an informed opinion to the table, but my thinking is that I don't care what the players want if what they want devalues the game.

As a fan, I want racking to take twenty seconds and I want no racking disputes. Possibly excepting the "gamesmanship bathroom breaks" that keep players and fans waiting around for no reason, nothing makes our game and our players look sillier and less professional than the racking disputes and that's the biggest reason rack your own has to go.

As many have noted, the best breakers have not been slowed down. In this US Open, the three best breakers (SVB, Dechaine, Bustamante) all had top 5 finishes despite Archer's prediction that the racking gurus would have to work a lot harder to succeed this week. The best breakers will be the best no matter how, where, or by whom the balls are racked and that's because they work so hard on their breaks.

Matchroom seems to understand all this, and neutral racking, used in conjunction with the shot clock, is what keeps their matches moving along and makes their matches the most entertaining in our sport.

I did not watch any streaming and I know nothing about the Shane`s racking in US Open, but I like to respond to your comment by giving this example.

Around two decades ago I was gambling with a Past US Open 9 ball champion. We were using Plastic Racks to rack the balls. I lost the lag and it was my turn to rack and his turn to break. I racked the balls and told him that I he needed to check the rack before he broke because I gave him a wicked rack intentionally. He checked the rack from various angles. . He said the rack is fine and I don`t see any problem. He broke the rack with full force and the cue ball flew of the rack like a missile, hit the wall and ended it`s journey by landing on the floor.

I was mischivous again when it was my turn to rack the balls and I warned him of my wicked rack. I was honest and told him that I cheated him with my mechanic skills. He inspected the rack with rack checking rituasl and said the rack was fine. He busted the rack and the cue ball flew of the rack like a missle and finally ended it`s journey and landed on the floor of the room. After that I never pulled that trick on him. He beat me 9-6.
The point I making is that my opponent, a past US Open champion, didnt find my rack to be a wicked rack but I only knew what I did to the rack.

What were you doing?

Heads a spinning with all this stuff...

How about we just do like what Fast Eddie said to Minnesota Fats in the Husltler.

Fast Eddie:"I'm shooting pool, Fats. When I miss, you can shoot."

I agree with this, even with the Magic Rack, if an untrained neutral racker is used, you can still get a bad rack.

With the magic rack, you really need to make sure to squeeze all the balls together after they are placed on the rack.

Oh well...

First rack ( For SVB) in hot seat match... SVB doesn't even breath on the one and the wing ball went straight in!

lMFAO... Next case.

And again...

SVB never touched the one,

Nick inspected and asked for a rerack with Helfert inspecting, ....wing ball right in.

I think all of this does highlight what's wrong with the game...but It ain't Shane's racking and breaking.

Yup. Next we'll be hearing the haters hollering about not allowing the spectators to examine the rack. Haters will hate.

"Wing ball corner pocket" all day long.
