Sharing My Bad Luck.....

That is bad luck but at least its fixable, reminds me of the time I had a new electric guitar and I was in a hurry so I grabbed the case it was in by the handle and picked it up not realizing none of the latches were not snapped shut, it fell out onto the tile floor and broke a big chunk out of the gloss black finish, here was this beautiful new glossy black guitar and you could see a huge spot of bare wood right on the front edge. Luckily a local guy that repaired pianos filled it in with some black finish he used to fix grand pianos and you couldn't tell the difference.

Your story reminds me of a couple of years ago I just got a sweet Euro Spector bass guitar and went to our band practice and I remember how excited I was to show everyone. Well I picked up the gig bag, unzipped on the bottom, and the guitar slips out and hits the concrete floor and knocks about a dime size chunk out of the finish - still makes me wince but you do put it behind you.

Wow, that's weird you posted that guitar thing right when I posted mine:eek:

That is weird but then again you play bass so you must be a little weird anyway.

Do you musicians know how a band can confirm when the stage is exactly level??

Let me tell you about my bad luck the past 24 hours..............

I finally got my cue from Jeff Olney yesterday. I ordered it last November, so I have waited around 7 months on it. I received it yesterday, and opened it at work. It was awesome, of course. I drove home from work, and when I got out of the car, I went to check my mail before I went into the house. As I was walking toward my door, I dropped one of the letters out of my hand. Not thinking, I bent over to pick it up. When I did, the cue slid out of the tub, and BAM, fell onto the concrete. And of course I put the cue back into the tube with the joint sides up. Now my brand new Olney has a huge chunk knocked out of the joint ring, the pin is scratched, and there is also a deep scratch on the butt side joint ring.

I was really pissed (as you can imagine). 7 months waiting, and ........well you get the picture.

I fumed for a while, watched the TAR match till around 11, then went to sleep. I woke up around 3:30 for some reason and finished watching the last 20 or so games of the MIke D - Chris B match, then went back to sleep.

I guess I didn't wake up on my own at 3:30, because when I got in my car this morning to go to work, someone had siphoned all of the gas out of my car (Durango), and I was afraid that I wasn't going to have enough to get to the gas station down the street. There was only a little more than a quarter tank in the car, but that's still around 25 bucks.

What ya gonna do??? Hopefully my luck will be better this weekend................

Mike

What a drag! I did the same thing with my favorite cue. My case has a velcro closer along with a zipper. Hyper and impatient as I am, I just did the velcro and went to my car. So of course the velcro was not closed that well and when i bent over, my brand new (Marc Thirault) -( I dare anyone to have heard of him.) cue hit the nasty apshalt. Fortunately the damage was limited to the butt and Marc repaird it pronto as good as new. I was very pleased with the result and Im a bit more careful with the closing of the case now.

Cheer up, it could be worse. The pin could have bent if you dropped it on concrete. Oh wait...

You could be the poster child for joint protectors!

Good luck with the repairs.

The King of bad luck

You folks have no idea what true bad luck is. Ever heard of Job from the Bible? Job don't have nuthin' on me. I am plagued with bad luck & have been for many many years. Before I even start on pool I will tell you that I have went to the Hollywood Casino here in columbus, OH a number of times & every time I go I place a bet or two on the crap table. Simple bets, the Pass line or I bet on the 6 or 8 to win. These are just about even money bets. I have lost WITH OUT EXCEPTION every single time. When I walk up to the crap table & place a bet the shooter immediately throws a 7 & craps out. Most of the players lose all their bets & chips. I have been run off by the other players at the table because of my bad luck. Statistically NO ONE loses repeatedly over & over without fail. My luck is unbelievable.

On the pool table I am just about the best player around. Most every pool hall I go to I am the best stick in the house. I have skills beyond this world & there is no impossible shot that I can't make. I know shots no one knows. I can put the ball anywhere on the table I want & make anything. I have a sledgehammer break. I can drop 5 balls on a break. Ever seen that? I have a soft break on a barbox that makes both wing balls every time. I cannot be rattled by sharking. I can play for hours & hours. I practice drills like a madman. I practice so hard I break a sweat & get out of breath [there is a reason for this].

There is no one around here that can beat me. I run everything on the table.. I can play circles around all opponents. Rarely if ever do I lose a game due to an opponents skill.

What's the problem??? Bad Luck. When it starts I might as well unscrew my stick & go home. I am a tournament player. I play in several tournaments a week. I have won a considerable amount of money in tournaments. No one can beat me until the bad luck kicks in. Then the games are given to them on a platter. If there is no physical possibility that the cue ball can scratch on the 8 in 8-ball or the 9 in 9-ball, don't worry, it will scratch for me. If the 9-ball can hang on the edge of a pocket, it will! No matter how hard I hit it. When playing me, do you need the balls to roll perfectly for you??? They will! Do you need whatever ball you are on in 9-ball to roll exactly frozen to the 9 aimed directly at a pocket for an easy win? No problem. When playing me this will happen all the time.

I play the hardest shots ever conceived & make them. But let it get to the end of the game & watch what happens. If something can go screwy it will. None of this is lost on the players around me. They talk in hushed tones about my bad luck. No one can believe it. But I do. I live it every day. I now have a reputation for this luck. Great...

One really weird thing is that whatever form of bad luck I have in an evening. It repeats itself over & over. Last night I scratched on the 8 or 9 in 9-ball against the same player 7 games in a row. Just like the craps table it was a loss of every single game against this player [even the games for fun after the tournament]. Tonight the 9 ball hung on the lip of the pocket 4 times for 4 losses [3 times in a row]. How does the nine ball start to tip down toward the pocket & then lift itself up & roll ever so slightly back?

Just for good measure tonight the 7 rolled up perfectly frozen to the 9 aimed at the corner pocket for my opponent. He didn't even want to win the match he told me. He wanted to go home. Both the opponents that beat me told me the same, they didn't want to win. Plus they both played terribly. Trouble was, when my bad luck kicked in they were sure to win. It was foretold in the stars. Neither myself not either of them could do anything about it. No matter how they shot, how they played even if they never made a ball [that happens a lot to me as well, they make nothing except the 9 ball which is 1 millimeter from dropping in the pocket].

And if I'm playing 8 ball & on the eight, the cue ball will kiss off one of their 7 object balls & scratch.

I have to practice ten times as hard as anyone else. I have to play ten times as hard as well. I have to beat my own bad luck, not my opponent. It is a thousand times harder to beat bad luck, let me assure you...

You folks have no idea what true bad luck is.

I did the same thing Jay Helfert did; several years ago. I put my cue on the roof of the car to unlock the door. Got in and drove away. Never saw that cue again!

How about this for bad luck. A few years back the OP of this thread (whom I had met before and thought was a good dude) landed in jail for one reason or another and (if memory serves) his daughter came on here soliciting money to help him out of a jam. She promised he'd square up with everyone and fill us in on what the problem was. I sent him a hundo, never heard back. Maybe he's still locked up...

You know Mike, these things always seem the worst right when they happen. After a day or so, we can put it in perspective. If this is the worst thing that happens to you, then it ain't so bad.

You can (and will) get the cue fixed. And you'll live without it until then. And what else? Oh that's it. Your new cue needs to be repaired? Is that all? See it's not so bad after all. :D

P.S. You'll never drop another cue in life. Trust me on that one. Let me tell you about the time I drove away with my cue on the roof of the car. It fell off on the freeway. UGLY!!! Try shooting with a right angle cue. :)

I was going to post something similar but Jay beat me to it.

Hang it there, we have all made silly mistakes.

It can be fixed, so no big deal.

Relax,

Ken

Dig up a six year old thread for this??

I actually kinda dig it, Push.

Why should threads disappear forever?

What the hell...we've all read books that were written hundreds and
thousands of years ago.

Maybe he should consider himself Lucky , they could have took the whole car not just the gas .. !!!!!!

Put things in prospective. Nobody is sick. Nobody is dying. Everything can be fixed. I hope everything works out for you. Good luck will come.
