Have any of Earl's opponents ever shown up wearing ear protectors?

I would imagine some showed up with a good set of protective glasses to avoid getting chips of wood in their eyeScaramouche said:Have any of Earl's opponents ever shown up wearing ear protectors?![]()

about me for a minute, when I was in my 20's playing pool I could be distracted easily, either by some outside thing or my own mind there was awalys something taking me "out of the shot", i took 12 years off serious pool and am comming back, the best thing thats happened is for a reason I cant explane the distractions are gone, I can block out anything in the pool room and my own mind isnt making any noise or thoughts of "what if". I just shut everything off like Shane says he does and he is Right it helps alot, infact that was one thing that held me back from being a better player then, i would dog balls often, and now its gone i donr miss key shots often, i still miss but not due to distractions, i just miss-its like meditation in a way, no noise in my brain or the pool room is great and to see a champion say that, is cool too, I really like Shane the more I hear about him the more I like him.
I think he's absolutely right about that. Efren worshippers aside, does anyone know any player that is looking forward to playing Shane? I don't fault the kid for saying what he can do. He's playing as well as anyone in the world right now. He's like so many others who stood apart from their peers in their primes. No one wanted to play them.Dana Bufalo said:Shane said, "The top pool players in the world...they're pretty much afraid of me right now. I'm playing real great right now. I competed in the last three tournaments and got into the finals. They know that I'm going to be one of the best pool players in the world right now."
John Barton said:I didn't know that ear plugs and Ipods were banned. Ipods I can see but don't really agree with all the way. But I don't think anyone should be allowed to ban earplugs.
I think that a very good case could be made that playing in a tournament is a player's job and that banning earplugs deprives him of the right to perform his job without distractions.
If Shane is allowed to willfully impair his hearing to avoid distraction then another player should be allowed to do the same. (yes I know Shane is not deaf by choice, but turning off a hearing aid is a choice.)
I think if players really wanted to press the case that there wouldn't be much that tournaments could do but allow earplugs. IPODS?? Doubt that players could get those through.
JCIN said:I called Shane last night after I saw the interview. When he answered the first thing I said to him was " So, I guess the top players in the world are pretty much afaid of you, huh ?"![]()
He just laughed and said "I'm playing good right now." We laughed about it for a minute and he asked what I was up to. I told him the truth: "I just got done writing an article about you and that interview!" He laughed some more and we shot the breeze for awhile. I wonder if Efren is sleeping Ok?![]()
One thing is for sure. The kid has no fear.
bob_bushka said:I've known Shane for many years. The young man has always been focused about being the best player in the world. I am happy to see him being so successful right now.
The toughest part of any sport is staying top dog when so many other dogs would just a soon bite your ass hard and spit you out. I think the difference I see is Shane puts a loss behind him and strives to excel that much more.
Confident or Cocky is more a level of respect. I don't think his comments were cocky, as they were presented so-matter-of-factly. However. I don't believe Michael Jordan with all his confidence would say that his opponents feared him. I think that the Tiger phenonmenom has somewhat queited down and maybe he isn't as feared as once was. Many times I've heard Tiger say something about being the best golfer in the world but no comments about his competetion other than he played well or I could have played better.
Maybe the choice of words in the interview were not the best but it is becoming apparent that the Kid is willing to back up his words and is totally capable of doing it. I know Shane is confident in his game right now and I don't foresee anything changing that in the short term. I am sure as he is approached on more interviews he will focus on his level of play in his comments and not his evaluation of the skill or mental game of his opponents that he will be facing for many years.
Just my 2 cents....

As for the interview, I think it was fine. Give the kid a break, he's 23.
God its been along time since I was 23.
