Shipping cues with Ivory

Now that the new gubmint ban is in effect what is the strategy for shipping cues??. When shipping a forbidden cue who accepts responsibility if it's confiscated...buyer or seller.

Also might it be better to use Fedex or UPS over the government agency of the USPS ?. Would placing a sample of alternative Ivory with a disclaimer stating that is the material in the cue is not Ivory be effective.

I'd like to hear everyone's opinions on this and various strategies for shipping.

It's hand to hand for me, can't make enough on a sale to cover the massive exposure possible when Interstate transactions are factored in the sale.

You both will probably get the heat. You for knowingly shipping it and the other for receiving it. Unless of course the receiver denies knowing it had Ivory. If it was F&W involved. They don't care if the receiver says he didn't know about it. His name is on it, he's liable.

Forgot to mention. Certain Authorities read this forum too.

There's still way too much confusion about what is permissible and what is illegal re" Ivory Sale.
Just take the time to read the regulations carefully.......There is the new Federal Law regulating
Interstate Commerce and the sale of ivory. There are also state laws that regulate the sale of
ivory which is separate and distinct from the Federal regulation on ivory sales.

It really is not confusing when you just take the time to read the actual regulations & unfortunately,
I reside in a state that has the strictest prohibition on ivory sales of any type whatsoever. However,
IMO, it is not a complicated issue when you take the time to read the laws rather than just posing
questions which seems like a lazy man's approach to this issue. If you rely upon what someone
posts on AZ and render your decision solely on what you read, then you are being foolhardy and
pretty much deserve whatever outcome befalls you. Don't entrust your cue's welfare to anyone you
do not know and trust. Basing your cue decisions on what you read on AZ seems a bit naive...JMO.

Hey Matt...I was just trying to get a feel for what other people who would like to sell a cue with Ivory were going to do. I don't need to be scolded and called lazy for addressing a serious issue. So come down off your high horse and stop acting like you know everything about cues. I have been into cues for a very long time and I think I know my way around this hobby.

You don't know me but I'm much smarter than you think

Tommy....I didn't intend to single you out.......a fair question you posed and a fair answer would suffice.
The Forum has a section on the Ivory Ban.........there are numerous links to this subject........my point
was intended to cut the discussion off at the pass because this thread would go on endlessly......ivory
threads tend to do that and questions about the ban, well, those are so easily answered via an Internet
search of the subject or even this Forum........I just am at a loss how people cannot understand what the
regulation presents in terms of limitations......everyone should know what their state laws are in their own
states......if the buyer you sell to resides in another state, just verify what the restrictions are, if any, for the
buyer's state. The Federal law is straightforward and regulates Interstate, not Intrastate, sales of ivory and
the mere ownership/possession of a cue with ivory does not violate any state or Federal law.....it all seems
pretty lucid and straightforward in regard to the regulations. Rest assured, this subject will come up again
because people don't bother to take the time to do a search on the Forum before posting their questions.

Wouldn't the 200 gram limit which equals 7 ounces make most cues exempt.

Just say your buying a cue with a Juma ferrule & Juma Hoppe ring from say NY, NJ, HI or CA ? Who`s to say that cue wouldn`t get held up somewhere in the USPS, FedEx or UPS system because someone there thinks it is actually Ivory & not Juma ? How does one go about this, (getting it solved) ? I have read some of but not all of the Ivory threads on this forum & I`m still at a loss on this whole matter. Just a question
Thank you

As far as the notice and sample of material:

If you call it alternative ivory, you mean it is ivory. An alternative lifestyle is a lifestyle, a red car is a car.

Call it imitation ivory if you have to mention ivory at all in the name of the material. But best to call it what it is...not the product name but the material name...as in what kind of plastic etc it is. That avoids mentioning ivory in any other way except saying it isn't ivory.

Really. You would hate to get caught on grammar. ;)

How does anyone know there's a cue in the package much less whether said cue contains Ivory or not?

That Sample and Disclaimer Note..

1st. - This is just to explain that sample and note. Not to create drama

That Sample and Notice was enclosed with a Cue Cap Set I made and sent out..
Just a simple note to explain what the material is, and, try avoid any confusion or initiate any further investigation.
The name "Alternative Ivory" is the name the company sells that Cream color Resin/Plastic Rods under.
It will be easier to use that "proper name", as, most logical guys would go to the site and search that "Proper Name", and,
have an easier time finding that item and learning about what "Alternative ivory" is and it's availability.
No disrespect to anyone here.
Just sayin'...

it does cause a lot of problems" - Alton Takata - Cue Caps :)

They don't moving a cue or a small package containing ivory inside the country has almost zero chance of being caught ,, not so much across boarders thier more likely to have random openings
Post office simply does not do that with out a tip or a red flag

Absolutely correct. The mere mention of the prohibited/illegal material will result in attention and suspicion. Better to simply state the exact material (plastic/resin) than reference the illegal one.
