Sorry here goes my pool hall rant again. As many of you know I travel aLOT! !!

I happen to be in Kansas city and I liked the conditions at shooters in Olathe.

The first time I drove the 45 minutes to get there I was told I couldn't play. The second time I had a blast and played for 7 or 8 hours.

I'm back in town and wasnt about to make the same mistake I did the first time so I called and asked to make sure I could play.

Nope...

I have to pay a membership fee and wait ten days to play there. That's just stupid. Have a friggin waiver to sign and give a single day membership or something but to just arbitrarily turn away business is idiotic.

Jaden

I'm not in town for ten days and I'm not about to keep a membership for the few days or weeks a year I'll be in town. So off to raytown rec where they know how to treat players

Your saying Dan Tull charges Every person who enters his pool room membership?

In Kansas to get by smoking rules you have to be a private club. During tournaments they allow a special event waver. I agree there ought to be a one-day guest membership available.

There are no fees

Im from Kansas and there is no membership fee that you have to pay to get in the only thing you have to do is sign in on a piece of paper. That is it write your name down and go shoot period. You are never gonna be turned away and you not gonna have to pay any fee. so who ever you talked to either misled you or had no clue who you was I'm not sure. but in order for people to smoke in there they must be a private club so that is the reason for you signing in when you enter. It is open to everyone that wants to come in and shoot pool, drink, hangout, or whatever. so don't hesitate to show up at Shooters in Olathe Ks. you're not gonna be turned away. I live in Missouri now but i will be there this weekend also.

Similar situation in AK, have to sign in at the door.

Im sorry you're wrong.

This isn't talking out of my ass here. I DROVE there and was turned away. The only time I wasn't turned away was the night of a one pocket tournament.

I called this time to make sure before I drove an hour and a half round trip down there and they TOLD me that I would be turned away if I came.

Keep me from playing once, shame on them. Keep me from playing twice shame on me.

Chuck for this tournament you are correct. but any other time 10 day wait period. I am going Thursday for One hole and Calcuttas

You should just have to pay the $10 membership fee, that is good for a year, and be able to play. When I did I was let in instantly no waiting 10 days.

quoted wrong guy. The tournament this weekend you can get in. Normally it is a 10 day member thing.

I can understand the 10 day waiting period...obviously, they have enough money and can decide whom they will allow to give them money.

No, that's not true.

there is a good reason for the no smoking rule whether you or i agree with it.. and if they want to skirt the law then you should have to pay a membership and go through an approval process or it should not be considered a private club, which this place is obviously not.

Really?? All you have to do is walk up to the nearest table and ask whoever is playing to sponsor you in...

Done deal. Was this thread necessary??

how do you walk up to a table and ask a player to sponsor you if he said they don't even let you in the door ?

I think it isn't unreasonable, he called first and committed to an hour and a half drive, no?

The first time I went there.

The first time I went there I tried everything. I called all the people that I knew that might be able to vouch for me. I posted a thread on AZ to see if any locals that were members could vouch for me. After standing there for a half an hour, they sent me packing.

Sorry, I'm not about to risk that again when I know I can go to Raytown Rec and play without the hastle. That's why I called first. If they want me to be shady to get to play and risk wasting two hours again, it ain't gonna happen, especially when the only reason is so they can let people smoke inside. There hasn't been smoking in california rooms for near on 20 years and it hasn't affected the pool scene and pool rooms there, people just go outside when they want to smoke or now they switch to vaping which is better for you anyways.

Charm?

That's what I did...no problem at all. Signed in, and stayed for 3 days.

I went there the night of a tourney and did exactly that just signed in and started playing because that's what they told me to do.

I wasn't going to take the chance of having what happened the first time I went there again and wasting two hours of my time.

When they tell you on the phone that if you come down, you WON'T be able to play, what am I supposed to do? Go ahead and drive down anyways and just sign in like I'm a member???

I'm an honest person and will not be shady in order to patronize what many laud as the best pool hall around.

So at least now people know that if they want to play there, they just have to be pretend to be a member and sign in on the sheet...

They won't get my business though and you can ask the people at Jamaica Joe's if they think my business is worth it, even though I only may be in town a few weeks or a couple of months a year.

I didn't pretend to be a member.

I went in. The guy at the door said I had to be a member. I asked how to become a member. He said I had to pay a fee of $XX and there was a waiting period of XX days. I asked if there was any other way to get in. He said I could be sponsored in by an existing member. So I walked up to the nearest person and asked him to sponsor me in.

Done.

I'm sorry, that's just ridiculous to require people to jump through hoops like that just to allow smoking inside. Me I don't believe the government has the right to stop any establishment from allowing smoking, but so what.

To tell customers and potential customers that they won't be allowed to play is wrong. Tell them you can ask a member here to sponsor you in if you're from out of town, but don't just say you have to be a member and wait ten days to play. That's idiotic. That's saying, we don't need your business so go away.

When I go to a pool hall I'll play for 8-15 hours. I don't know a business that couldn't use 35-80 dollars extra a day...and that's if I don't have any food or drink. One month I was in OKC I probably spent close to a $1000 at Jamaica Joe's. There were cheaper places to play, but joe's has good equipment and they know how to treat customers.
