Shooting on Halloween

If anything this is just me venting :angry:

So for whatever reason our league director scheduled league for Halloween night.
I told our team captain a month ago that either this match needed to get rescheduled or they would need to get a sub for me.

You see I have 3 young kids who go out, and of course I take them out trick or treating.
I found out last week that our team captain could only get the other team to move back our starting from time for 7 to 8. That would mean that I would need to take the kids around and bring them back home and drop them off with the wife and then leave pretty much right away to go league.

All but one of the other players on that team doesn’t have kids.

So now I feel kind of stuck. Our captain does not want to shoot without me. It is a top league in my area and we are very competitive and I know, there are not many players at my/our level that can just step up and sub for me.
We of course are in 2nd place in the league.

So it appears that either I show up and play or my team may boycott the entire night.

I really have no interest in playing this night.
Regardless, I want to take my kids around and see them have fun and the joy piles of candy after.

I really just think some people take league way to seriously.

So what would you do?

In my opinion, family first. league games come and go and anyone that can't understand that isn't worth your time. Family should always take priority over our hobbies.

Exactly;

Especially when you gave them a month notice...tough.
 
Are they giving out candy at league night? No.

Take the kids trick-or-treating. I usually carried a beer mug.
 
Without knowing more details, its difficult to give a good opinion (are there enough players that your team doesn't have to forfeit, primarily) but my answer is to take your kids Trick or Treating. They will be grown and gone before you know it.

We play on Thursday, too. I'm going early, others have to be away for it, as well. My kids are grown and not interested in my being around them on Halloween.

I have 2 young children as well. I've even thought about quiting league full time and just sub so I would be with my kids more. It seems like just yesterday my son (who's now 5) was going trick or treating for his first time.
 
I have the same problem. Our team has three SL6-7 players so one of us always has to sit out (curse you "rule of 23"). So I played last week and will sit out this week. In your situation I'd sit out too.

And who knows, maybe the other team will have the same problem.

I concur. We're (local league) shooting as well; I already told my team to forget about me. I'm the captain, and one of the best shooters on my team. We will have to forfeit; I don't care. We, too, are in second place currently. My family is more important.

Family is more important. Pool will always be there. You gave a months notice so the Cap can't complain.

We play Thur as well. The only upside is that I am sure that Nick the Greek will Treat me a beer.

Either don't go or see if there can be a compromise. Contact the captain of the other team and see if the member that you will play will agree to play you later in the evening or schedule a make up match. It is hard to believe that others would not understand your dilemma and work with you. Maybe the guy on the other team has the same problem... Should be able to be worked out - we are all adults. If it can't - enjoy the night with your kids and find another team with a captain that will respect you and work with you next time. You gave plenty of notice. Good luck.
 
same problem here..i was a little surprised that league was not canceled....my grandchildren are coming over at 7 pm for candy pictures etc.....I told my team captain I would not be there prior to 8:30pm, so post someone else until I get there but I would be there by 9 pm because the children do have to go to school the next day. try to do both! I also like the part about playing the ghost! :cool:
 
I know when I play league and we start at 7, we don't usually start the last match much before 10:00. Take the kids out and then show up to play last. Or just forfeit the last match and tell your team to win the other 4.:smile:
 
no brainer......

My kids are older now, and all my halloween memories are fading fast, they wouldnt spend halloween with me now if I paid them

you only get a few halloweens with young kids! ENJOY IT NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


you can play pool the rest of your life.....
 
I totally agree with you all.
My kids/family come first.
In an effort to please everyone I will just show up really late.
The other team can deal with it.

I just wished that the league directors gave a crap about players and would have skipped this week all together.
