Gary Spaeth passed on about 5 or 6 years ago from cancer. The best I have ever seen play are as follows.

1. Bugs Rucker (I backed two guys against him just to watch him play in the late 80's or early 90's. Wow is all I can say.. He came in with an entorouge was stiffing straight backs like I have never seen)

2. Gary Spaeth (Of all the great bankers I spent the most time around him he didn't bet like Bugs but I never seen him lose a bank pool match for the cash. He would run a 9ball rack in rotation banking unbelievable)

3. Truman Hogue (I thought I was stealing side betting Nick Varner vs Truman. I was getting stuck up)

4. Shannon Daulton (Firepower, and more firepower)

5. John Brumback/Tony Fargo (Underated bank pool champions)

Short rack, long rack, what's the difference. Eddie Taylor and Bugs were the best. Cannonball and Youngblood Washington played very close to them also. As did Vernon Elliot, Truman Hogue and Donnie Anderson.

More recently, I liked Gary Spaeth, Shannon and Jason Miller in that order. Danny Harriman, Tony Fargo and John Brumbach are right there too. It all comes down to who is hitting them best that day.

Betting high, I might pick Tony Fargo over all the above. With Shannon second. Not betting so high and Gary was my pick. For $50 a game, he might run racks all day. For $500 a game, Tony would.

I understand Truman has always held a day job while playing this speed.
Is this correct?

Bazooka Joe,

Yes, it is. Truman Hogue works 9-10 months a year in the concrete business. According to legend, he doen't practice much either other than those 3 months when he's layed off for the winter.

That's a great list

And would probably be my order for short racks best, {I'm sure Eddie Taylor should be there too, but never seen him play}
As for betting it up against Tony right now, I don't think I'd put anyone in the box. But there are a couple of those mentioned who'd give him a run for it.

I've told you guys and i've told you guys... Tony Fargo will play anyone in the world full rack banks for $10,000 or $ 20,000 a session. He is open to the world. This is always a serious offer and we can match it up. Hogue, miller, coleman, piggy banks, and even though i really like him; danny harriman could get action and anybody else you can think of.

Uhh.. The OP asked about SHORT rack bank pool
which, I would hope you understand is a completely
different game

Dale

Banks

Eddy Taylor
Bugs
Vernon Elliott
The above order could be switched around on a given day but if the money was piled high Vernon would most likely walk away with the green! Those in the know also know it's true. The list can continue but only after the above three.

Short Rack, short man

While my opinion differs on who is who in full rack banks, the guy I couldnt bet against (except for Eddie Taylor) was the short rack, short man, Truman Hogue. I would be going back about 15 years though. He just had too much shooting power on an open table. Even I ducked him (one of a select few who got ducked). The bet wouldnt make much difference either.

Freddie,
Thanks for your opinion on this thread. Yours always has a deep sense of credibility to it and is really appreciated.

I have probably one of the hardest questions for you to answer, not because you don't know, but rather, it may make you feel awkward. I hope it doesn't but here goes...Where would you rank YOU in the all time best bankers list? Who would you consider above you? Could you list YOUR top 10 or so?
Thanks,
Terry
