Shortstop Speed?

Well let's see here~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I have been called a shortstop..I have been called a player..I have been called a hustler..I have been called a low-down son-of-a-b*&^%..I have been called a nit..I have been called a locksmith..I have been called an a$$hole..I have been called several other things (I cannot mention on this forum):o

All jokes aside..I'm a decent shortstop..Scotty Townsend gives me the 7 ball and it's a dead even game.

Against a champion like Rodney Morris I would need something like the wild 6 out.

James Walden spots me 10/7-11/7(that's how bad I play one hole) and I lose everytime..But he won't give me anymore weight because of how I bank.

I would play any living breathing human(Efren included) a set of last pocket 8 ball (Texas Express Tourney Rules) with the right spot....

What's the right spot? pm me with your horse's offer and I'll tell you...:) :)

Johnnyt,

My definition of a shortstop is pretty close to yours.. A shortstop would be a top player in a fairly large metropolitan area, but can't get there against the best in his state, let alone top pros.

Seems that some people on here reserve the title of shortstop for anyone JUST below Johhny Archer, Pagulayan, Efren, Schmidt, etc..

I think that's why my shortstop statement towards instroke75 garnered so much attention. It's because "shortstop" seems to have taken on a different meaning in recent few years.

In my mind, shortstops don't win multiple championships in their state. Therefore, Robb Saez, Tony Crosby, etc.. in Florida are way above shortstop status... Mike Zimmerman and Glenn Atwell in the NW aren't as strong as those two, but they are also above shortstop level.

Shortstops don't have as strong a mental game as the guys just up the ladder from them. There are guys in Florida that CAN beat Saez, Crosby, Orem in a Florida Pro Tour event, but they most likely aren't getting to the finals.

This is JMHO...

Russ

I think a lot of players on here, and poolplayers in general boost themselves up a ball or two when rating their game. Now they have to boost the local shortstop up to make it come out right. :D Johnnyt

This is my first post. I'm relatively new to the game and was wondering what exactly is shortstop speed. Would that be around a 5 or 6 in the APA?
Thanks Guys

Here is a quick answer that will get you close to a shortstop speed..
A shortstop is about the 7 under a good pro.. Not the top guys...

In your estimation, what would Rodney have to give Scotty for a dead even game? Just curious.............

MP,
Too cool. I like your analogy.

P.S. - it is 34 million gallons per minute that flows over Niagara Falls in the summer on average.

I think those are "imperial gallons," each worth about 1.2 US gallons. So that's about 40 million US gallons per minute, which is about 0.7 million gallons per second. I called it nearly a million gallons each second.

I'll admit it is rumored to slow down a bit in the winter time.

This is a little closer to my evaluation of a Shortstop. If you play the 7 under Johnny Archer or Rodney Morris, you are no longer a Shortstop. You are a pretty serious player.

If you play the 7 under Max Eberle or Tony Crosby, you are a Shortstop speed player. And their are different levels of Shortstops also. A strong Shortstop will beat pro players occasionally (i.e. Ron Park). A lower level Shortstop is content beating up on the locals.

In a nutshell, a Shortstop is a pool "player" who is not quite good enough to beat the pro level players (withour weight). But he is good enough to play with and usually beat the local champs. In fact, many times the local champions are, in fact, Shortstops themselves. That may be the best way to explain this phenomena. The top local players ARE Shortstops. They beat eveyone around, but the occasional road man that comes thru, gets their dough. But not always.

Are you confused yet?

"Shortstop speed" is officially defined as the minimum ability you must have to justifiably woof at Russ.

Defined as I quoted it myself. Thanks.

Shortstops are the second tier of players you will see auctioned off at regional events like Peachauer and Viking tour events. The Schmidts, Archers, Moores, Youngs, Usserys and such go highest. Then come the shortstops. In our area that would mean Ron Parks, Jesse Middlebrooks, Jeff Hooks, Jim Jennings and so forth....

Did you just put BJ in the same category as Johnny? Jeff Hooks, Ron both are capable of beating BJ on a given day.

Jamie Bowman and a N. Carolina boy that goes buy Chewtabacca are both good short stops in my mind.

You know it.

I have played Derrick and we couldn't match up last time he came looking for action. Great stroke and capable of knocking off anyone on a given day. Ol' Chewy. If you see him, tell him Crawfish said the "last two" still ain't enough.

Nice, you agree then that he gots game. He came through FL last year. First he robbed the Golden Cue (you can get action there too; I think his pockets got too full so he had to leave), then he came to titusville, then he went on down towards Stuart (Nathan Rose's place) and Miami.

Hell yes!
But my def of a shortstop is a lil different than others I guess. To me they arent pro, but if they actually put in the time and effort they contain the ability to be. They could currently put in a very strong showing at a pro event, placing in the cash, but probably not the top 1-5.
I think you game could net you quite a bit of cash if you brought that shit down here to FL, not many people here know your face, your name is know a bit more though because your lil bro came down here and won a FL pro event a few years ago.

Sounds good.

I have always done well in Florida. Remind me not to bring my Swift case that says "Crawfish" on the back. I am coming through in about two months to see my uncle near Orlando. By the way, Chewy can play most, and I include them all.
