Is Josh Roberts no longer a hot property?
He was being highly touted for the team a few months ago.

He is a very good player, but in terms of ability I think Earl is still better. He would probably beat Roberts in a longer race. However, he has much better composure than Earl

I'd take Landon Shuffett for this event over anyone but Shane, Bergman, and maybe Sky.

He's the closest thing we have to what Europe is currently putting-out with guys like Albin and Filler.

:)
Earl has the best record of the USA team.....
14-11 singles
23-10 doubles
1-1 trebles
3-1 teams

64% or 61% depending which way you look at it.

info from AtLarge....who else? :)

pt -- That was Earl's record prior to his last Cup appearance in 2013. In 2013 he went 0-1 in singles, 1-2 in doubles, 0-1 in teams, and 1-4 in total.

So, here is his record now, with 14 appearances (only Archer has more appearances for Team USA).

In terms of the number of winning and losing matches in which he has been involved:
  • 14-12 singles, 24-12 doubles, 2-0 trebles, 3-2 teams, 43-26 total (winning percentage of 62%)

In terms of the numerical contribution he has made to the overall Mosconi Cup match scores (counting a full point in a singles win or loss, half a point in a doubles win or loss, etc.):
  • 27.2 - 18.4 (60%)

Earl's winning percentage is the best for the players with a lot of apperarances on Team USA, but it isn't the best of all the players. Jeanette Lee and Vivian Villarreal have both participated in 5 Mosconi Cup matches (1994) without a loss = 100%.

[And some other players who have participated in just a small number of Cups might have good percentages.]

But Strickland's winning percentage isn't the best. Jeanette Lee and Vivian Villarreal have both participated in 5 Mosconi Cup matches (1994) without a loss = 100%.

In the spirit of FargoRate, Earl's record has a robustness to be significant.
I believe Hatch's record is better also, but few appearances.

I edited my prior post before seeing this one of yours.

Number of winning and losing matches in which he has been involved:
• Dennis Hatch (4 years -- 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013) ..... 4-3 singles, 5-7 doubles, 2-2 teams, 11-12 total (winning percentage 48%)

Numerical contribution he has made to the overall Mosconi Cup match scores:
• Hatch ..... 6.9 - 6.9 (50%)

[He was 11-7 for his first 3 appearances, then went 0-5 in 2013.]

If Matchroom Sport believes it is best to put a European in the American Team captain position, then, by golly, we need Earl Strickland on this team more than ever, especially because this will be on American soil in Vegas.

USA, ALL THE WAY

USA, ALL THE WAY

If you really thought this way, then you wouldn't be rallying for Earl to be included on the team.

Winning one regional tournament against a bunch of 2nd and 3rd tier pros does not mean he's back to form.

Uh, this --> HERE

Respond to somebody else in this thread. There's nothing more for you and me to discuss. You know my opinion, and I know yours. Move on, Pal.

Earl's behavior is so bad
I think hie s bad for pool
especially international competition

A lot of U.S members like to forget that about the first ten years or so of the cup, where Europe didn't play much pool and filled the team with snooker players. It was like Karen Corr or Kelly Fisher clubbing the baby seals at women's regional tournaments. All the U.S had to do is show up...it was a joke. Now the other rabbit has the gun. Johnnyt

"Clubbing baby seals." :rotflmao1::rotflmao1::rotflmao1::rotflmao1:

Might as well slip Earl in this year . I don't like the non-American coach and if we do manage to win, Europe will say it was because of the coach. Johnnyt

Earls bad attitude, poor sportsmanship and ridiculous antics are not worth his level of play. There are plenty of players that play his speed and dont bring the negative antics along with them.

I like the way you think. :grin-square:

Pool is a war game, like boxing and chess....lotta competitive people play it.
....here's some of them millionaire snooker players...they feel the same way...
....and I like them better for it

That's ok, if we lose we can say it was because of the coach.

Earl just scratched and raked 8 balls against Corey Deuel with Corey needing only 2 games to win the match.

Anyone who pulls that kind of stunt as often as Earl does should not be on the Mosconi Cup team.

Now Earl just conceded the 5 balls left on this table to lose the match. Who's to say he won't do the same thing when dozens of European fans are heckling him at the Mosconi Cup?

I notice that a lot of Europeans are voting for Earl. I think I know why.

LOL. :D You might have a point.

My experience, at least here on AzBilliards, is the European members have a deep-seated hatred for American Earl Strickland and have express their sentiments with no-holds-barred. The Europeans fail to see how sometimes the European players display unsportsman-like conduct.

How about when Mike Dechaine was sucker-punched right before his match at the Mosconi Cup in England? Nobody utters a peep about that. I didn't know about it until recently. I remember the match, though, because I kept thinking to myself why on earth is Mike looking like that during the match. Well, he was almost knocked out by a European sucker punch before his match.
