Should tournaments ban the use of ivory cues?

Too big a can of worms to open... First, how to prove the ivory (legal or illegal) in a cue? Second, it's a pool tournament, not a cue show.

However, I'm okay with tournament sponsors wanting to send a message about illegal ivory, be it hanging a banner and/or distribute pamphlets about the issue at the tournament.

If they do

Why would I call the police? If i call them then they are going to confiscate.

I'm just saying don't be surprised that its banned in tournaments. The pros don't want to touch this topic.

You seemed to have self appointed yourself as acting ivory inlay police..

You seem to want to take actions, only problem if you cant prove if the ivory is pre ban or not .

In other words you don't know $hit , and just pointing fingers at anyones cues that might look like ivory .

Do you really think the new ivory law that Cailfornia put on the books is going to save any elephant.

Does anyone really think a reputable cue-maker is going to knowingly use poached ivory when legal ivory is amply available and can be purchased right now....today?

So hanging a banner about the ivory ban might make sense in a bar in Zimbabwe warning patrons about the ban, however, dangling a sign at a tournament isn't likely to be seen by many ivory poachers.....cue owners and cue-makers aren't the parties buying poached ivory.....might as include a banner about climate change.

It's been over a 100 degrees in Fresno 35 days already this year ....our annual average is 15 days of 100 degrees or more ( about two weeks)........the forecast is for another 7 days into August over 100 degrees......and I'm not talking just breaking the mark........last week we had 108, 108, 109, 110, 108 degrees ....today could reach 110.....We only average 15 days a year and we may do >50 days this year....sixteen (16) consecutive years of breaking record heat ....every year sets a new record.......2016 has already smashed the records for 2015 which broke the record for 2014, etc.....we are going to have the 16 hottest temperatures civilization has ever recorded dating back to the 1800's.......Screw the ivory ban signs.....promote climate change warnings instead.

Stupidest post ever!
Most likely, whoever you complain about is gonna knock your teeth out and use them as inlays

Although I only read the OP's original statement, and the last few responses, I most certainly would have to agree with jason.
I have four small ivory diamonds in the butt of my cue. If I would have had the opportunity I would have personally shot the elephant from whence they came.

Yeah I'd I imagine he will quickly become intamitely aquainted with some ivory. I truly think this is a troll post, even he can't be serious?????

I think there is already a BAN on Big Payouts, because there aren't any.

The FB, BB & BB players, that sit on the bench, do not do much for a lot more than livable wages. Some Pool Players don't make livable wages & if they do, another Pool Player doesn't get to eat.

Most of the money in Pool gets recycled weekly.

Forget about the Ivory, what difference does it make... NOW. Support your local Wild Life Rangers

Don't be so close minded. There is an ivory ban and these big manufacturers are going to stop production on ivory cues and they are sponsors.

There is going to be pressure to ban what is now deemed illegal contraband.

I think it's dumb but with today's social and political climate I would not be surprised.

I can agree with your last sentence; however, it has not happened yet and you seem to want to be the one who gets the ball rolling and for that sir I could see you getting a special prize, a first place ribbon let's say. If you truly don't care as you say then why stir the pot?

Truth is whether anyone cares to think about or admit it, the more they ban the higher the price goes up - same as anything else. So, ban it, makeep ivory ten times what it's worth now and watch poaching go up 50 fold. That's fact.

Lets face it this is a politically correct world and should tournaments ban the use of what is now an illegal item/material?

I can see players protesting to directors because they don't want to be play another player using an illegal cue.

If a player is using an illegal item, deemed by the laws of some states, than how can we trust him not to cheat?

I really don't care but since this is a hot topic would it be just better to disallow an item the government now deem illegal.

What!?! Absolutely not, a governing body should NEVER implement rules for moral issues. Moral issue should be outside the the scope of any governing body, they should have rules the make it fair for all players, and rules that affect the difficulty of the game. IMO.

No wonder people shoot the piano players....
...them keys are ivory.

We should ban all cues with wood in them too. Tree lives matter. No leather tips either!

Hey I own treelivesmatter......that will either be 5$ or one green rep.

#treelivesmatter very much. #stoptheburnpile

Don't suffer the wood because one acts like a donkey. It's not the wood fault you didn't set the indexing plate lock, or your points don't line up.

My hands will make your wood great again.

Seriously elephants are beautiful creatures that are highly intelligent and aware. But we ain't gonna make it without the trees.....best get our got dam priorities straight.

I was being serious about burn piles....I think it's vain and egotistical.....ohhh poor cue person isn't perfect boo hoo. Man up don't be wasteful....because you can or can afford to is nothing more than an excuse to hide butchery and lack of savvy as a craftsman.

Who said anything about moral issues?

Money issues.

I can see people buying a sponsor cue because they can't use their ivory cue.
