Should tournaments ban the use of ivory cues?

Not crazy at all. A famous cue maker got popped so it's best to just keep them away from the pool industry and scene.

We need to get rid of the bad stigma that has been following pool for decades.

It's not just ivory it's other things as well. If we're going to grow the game then we better get rid if the bad.

I think your way over playing your hand ,, in my 40+ yrs of playing pool I have yet to have one person comment on the ivory in my cues nor have I ever seen it , I would also say this mythological stigma of pool does not exist either that stigma died many many moons ago
You stand in a line that would rival a line to death by torture

Dom.....you are really swimming in the deep end of the pool looking for coins.

You stated......"The player may have a cue", not that you know or can prove.
You aren't even alleging it was illegal but might be........you'd be laughed &
scoffed at for making suggestions that were unproven and unsubstantiated.

The burden of proof lies with you to prove the cue was illegally made.....you'd
need to prove the date it was made and by whom and why the cue was illegal
and since you would have zero proof, you would not get any consideration.

Whoa.....the stigma is on the individual for breaking the law, not the vocation
and besides, Ernie might be innocent......the facts aren't revealed yet.

As far as becoming environmentally oriented, what about rare woods and leathers?
No more Brazilian Rosewood, or elephant leather wraps or ring tail lizard ......where
does it stop and a cue made 30 years ago deserves to be admired and appreciated
instead of being shut away in a closet........There are no EX POST FACTO Laws in
the USA.....and cues with ivory are still legal......so you want to .....what??????

Be Politically Correct About Pool Cues?

Please tell me there are still people on the Forum that don't attempt to build a bridge
too far because this thread's topic is ......well, pretty absurd & ridiculous.....in my opinion.

p.s. Anyone....even a famous cue-maker....deserves to be popped if they break a law. The
solution is really simple........comply with the law and accept your fate if you get caught.

You must bear in mind WHO is rattling this (Ivory) cage. He loves to keep the Pot
stirred with his nonsense. Don't feed the Trol and, hopefully, he'll slither back home
to NPR.

Why ask the question?

Agreed, this thread is ridiculous. It is not illegal to own Ivory as a individual if it meets the requirements set forth by the US Government. I have cues with Ivory, I wish they did not, but they do. I know the Ivory was legally obtained and did not contribute to poaching and I'm fine with that. I do think that the US government should compensate anyone who turns in their raw Ivory stock for a cash payment of at least their proof of purchase plus inflation. Craftsmen should not be left hung out to dry because they invested in their business.

I say "ban everybody who can beat me from playing pool".

I now declare myself "the one and only World Champion"!

I will agree to disagree. If everyone is banned from pool.

Then I now pronounce myself the new King of all cue sports and forever
the Number one Champion and Lord High Dictator of pool

JK LOL back to reality!!!

Lets face it this is a politically correct world and should tournaments ban the use of what is now an illegal item/material?

I can see players protesting to directors because they don't want to be play another player using an illegal cue.

If a player is using an illegal item, deemed by the laws of some states, than how can we trust him not to cheat?

I really don't care but since this is a hot topic would it be just better to disallow an item the government now deem illegal.

I would think not. I too have a cue with Ivory in it. I have convoluted split feelings about that. It's too bad that mankind cannot be conservative in his use of resources. While mankind has dominion over the plants & animals, there is no reason to catch the last fish in the sea, but if someone could fetch a dollar for that fish... it would be a done deal.

Lots of cues & other items have ivory in them & it's said to be legal. Legal...? What's that mean...?

They are not illegal to own. So, no.

I'm just saying this is a possibility and not that it should be banned.

For the sake of argument...lets say I don't want to play you because of the ivory cue. I protest to the director that you may have something that was illegally purchased.

They will most likely side with me unless you can prove otherwise. There is still doubt and illegal contraband should not be allowed in sanctioned tournaments.

Again in this social climate I can see this happening.

I don't want it banned but I won't be surprised.

I'm a vegan and am offended by the use of animal products. Your shoe leather, leather tip, and leather wrap make me cry with pain and I will not compromise my beliefs for you or anyone. You cannot play, you're a murderer in my eyes.

Your jeans were produced in Mexico, where the illegal job stealing thieves and rapists come from. Your jeans offend me. You cannot play because you clearly provide monetary support to illegal immigration and crime.

Your phone and car contain parts produced in communist countries with vastly unfair trade agreements, that are known to steal American copyrights and patents, produce knockoffs, and hack our technology. Your phone and car offend me because you are supporting those who want to destroy us. You cannot play.

Ran into a director last night and he said he would consider if there was enough people are complaining.

Then he or she needs to give up their position as TD.

Ivory is not illegal to own or play with, and does not afford any distinct advantage over a cue without it.

I hope everyone walked or biked to the tournament as fossil fuel from countries contributing to the terrorist problems we have offends me.
Ivory has not been banned.
It's commerce has been banned or outlawed.

I think the TD was being nice to him in answering the dumb question.

WoW ! There goes another tournament...

The TD brushed Dom off just to make him go away with this silly proposition......the rules of pool are clear.......there are standards for equipment.....if the standards and rules change, that's a different situation entirely but until then, this thread's topic is just pure, unadulterated stupidity......No TD is going to ban ivory and remain a TD for very long........what's the best cue show to attend in Las Vegas next year.......I am going to score a Hercek cue and rest assured, the cue I want will symmetrically match my cue collection.

If you think the cue I am using is illegal call the police .

If you don't like the cue I am using don't look at it .

If you don't like groups of people who use cues that have legal ivory inlays then just don't hang out with them.

You need to get a life and leave well enough alone !!! It is banned now is that not good enough for you?? I'm sure if we could change the past that a lot of people would change you being born !!!

Why would I call the police? If i call them then they are going to confiscate.

I'm just saying don't be surprised that its banned in tournaments. The pros don't want to touch this topic.
