Should tournaments ban the use of ivory cues?

Why is it so hard to believe?

Sponsored cue manufacturers will seize production of ivory cues to get you to buy a new cue from them.

You are underestimating the power of money here.

Lucky for us that production cue makers don't have ANY WHERE NEAR the kinda $$$$it would take - you live in a fantasy world

I finally got it....I dunno why it has taken me so long to realize this.....it dawned on me only today, despite having contributed to the needless perpetuation of pretty meaningless banter or so it seems to most of us.

This topic has little appeal unless you're a "Conspiracy Theory Person"....could be anything from aliens to coming to take yours guns or Big Brother is watching us, or anything that pretty much comes to mind that relies upon aberrant minded emotional arguments and total disregard for actual facts & genuine circumstances that surround us.....none of that matters to someone that basically has a Conspiracy Theory Advocate mentality..........they are going to come and confiscate your pool cues because it has ivory, don't ship them ever or take the cues out of the state......goodness gracious never advertise these cues were for sale........hide them when at cue shows or else tell everyone that's really Juma in your Searing or Szamboti pool cue............""They're coming to take you away....Haha"...........remember that old song lyric?

Folks, I am hardly the resident expert on the Forum about ivory, nor am I up to date what every state is contemplating. But I do my level best to remain abreast of this topic simply because I have a strong vested interest......my own pool cue collection and my interest in adding a few more cues. However, accomplishing that is a lot harder for me than before but it's not impossible and I want it to also remain risk free. So I follow and study the ivory ban outlook all the time. and am very confident in my knowledge and understanding of what's allowable and what will get your ass in trouble. Folks, don't let this happen in your state and The Federal reg is always what it is. No state can pass any law more lenient than the Federal version but they can enact laws that are more stringent than the same Federal statute about ivory. So rest assured, the only reason a state passes its own version is so that they can enact a more strict version of the Federal law and sometimes the state version gets overturned for over-reach but that takes time. The CA law is under challenge in the courts right now. So check with your local legislators and find out if anything is developing or being discussed, debated or considered in any way......when it starts to happen, and rest assured it all too often does, it tends to become too late to catch the moving train so don't gripe about it when if this occurs in your state........it's just laziness or apathy on your part not to double-check and make sure it doesn't take root in your neck of the woods.

Passion for pool

The potential for tournaments banning ivory cues is a REAL possibility. Whether you agree or not is irrelevant. Its up to the tournament director. Also I think it's a real possibility that cues sold at Trade Shows and Tournaments may also face scrutiny as well. In our Politically Correct World, nothing is sacred. Cue sticks are small potatoes compared to jewelry, statues and carvings. The real question is how to prove your ivory cue was manufactured from the pre-ban era? That is no easy task. And, who wants to have to prove it over and over when officials confront you about your ivory laden cue?

Tap, Tap< Tap.
I bought my Ivory legal..........and you cant not prove other wise.
I know who I bought my Ivory from . and I photograph everything I make and I have both a paper trail and electronic trail .
This thread is make believe .......

You guys might brush up on the Constitution rights, and civil rights before you get your toes wet on this one .

Might want to talk to a lawyer or two.

Maybe see a doctor, head x ray's. Electro shock therapy !

Thanks for your research on the subject matter.

You have a nice problem... Which cue to play with

Right ,, I thought you said the sight of ivory offends you ?
Then you say nice problem as in nice cues with ivory inlays ?

He also said this, and I have to agree - I like the off white look too.

I doubt they are substitutes but I can't tell. Some ivory are off-white and some are bright white.

I like the off-white look.

Your witch hunt

Not crazy at all. A famous cue maker got popped so it's best to just keep them away from the pool industry and scene.

We need to get rid of the bad stigma that has been following pool for decades.

It's not just ivory it's other things as well. If we're going to grow the game then we better get rid if the bad.

Can we duck tape your fingers together so you cant type instead.

If I've read the new laws correctly, it isn't actually up to the authorities to prove your ivory is illegal. It's up to you, the consumer/owner, to prove you obtained it legally. Hopefully your paper and electronic documents hold up, in the event you have a run in with Johnny Law.

For those who insist that they can play with ivory in their cues in tournaments, you are mistaken. A tournament director has the right to set the standard for dress code, conduct and playing equipment just like not using jump cues and phenolic based tips for breaking. As I mentioned, in our Politically Correct World, everything is up for debate.

Get rid of the bad stigma he says after bidding in the calcutta in a bar!!!!!

I'm just saying this is a possibility and not that it should be banned.

For the sake of argument...lets say I don't want to play you because of the ivory cue. I protest to the director that you may have something that was illegally purchased.

They will most likely side with me unless you can prove otherwise. There is still doubt and illegal contraband should not be allowed in sanctioned tournaments.

Again in this social climate I can see this happening.

I don't want it banned but I won't be surprised.

If you wont play someone because he has ivory in his cue I think that means you forfeit.

What little ivory I own is all legal ....... and I have both paper and electronic proof ..
I have moved on, I use deer or elk sheds antlers to do my white inlays now anyway.

No animals have to die to used deer and elk antler sheds .
And people don't seem offended when they find out it is deer or elk antler .

The issue of this thread it is taking away our rights to own and use in public cues that have legal pre ban ivory inlays

I don't want to carry papers to play with cue and the USA doesn't need to be ran like Nazi Germany.

Tournament directors still have to follow people civil and constitutional rights .
If they don't they will be in court on this one ...........

For any TD to try to police ivory cues will be a legal nightmare for them ....
