Show Off Longer Cues

John Davis

Here's a 60" full splice I commisioned john davis to build last year. This beauty is waterfall bubinga into straight grain, with the white/green/orange/black veneer combo. All the white is ivory.

Butt: 15.1 oz
Shafts: 4.1 oz @ 13.1 mm
3.9 oz @ 13 mm
Together: 19 or 19.2 with a natural balance 20" from the butt.

John used a really cool 3/8 x 10 pin, with a kind of self-piloting design, which creates a nice tight fit, while preserving a flat face, phenolic insert to ivory joint. The stick hits stiff for how long it is, and it delivers a good amount of feedback via the fullsplice. This cue has exceptional tone, even when tapping it on the floor, I swear it resonates in 'd.' John is a great guy to boot.

Beauties. All of them. Always loved the Davis blanks. Great full cue.

I've gone 60 inches, never going back...

My main player these days...http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=228123 . It's a Carolina Custom, 60 inches (30/30 split), 20 oz, balance point 20 inches. Two custom shafts both pro taper ivory ferrules at 12.85 mm. Tips are milk duds (love them, but I'm on to Kamui Black Soft, now). Third shaft is a 30 inch Gulyassy SPTX with a kamui black soft tip, best shaft I have ever had on any of my cues. Been playing almost a year with this cue, my favorite by far of the cues listed in my sig block.

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=252461 . Second one from the top is a Gary Medlin (GEM) cue from Lake Charles, LA. Probably played my best pool ever with that cue back in the early 90s. 59 1/2 inches long, evenly split, 19.5 oz, one shaft 12mm, the other 12.5mm. Balance point 20 inches. The feel between the GEM and the CC are pretty close, the CC shafts are much stiffer, though.

59+60inch cues

Here are four overlength cues that was made for me. Only one is gone.

From top to bottom:
-Special made Mezz EC7 with tulipwood with 30inch butt and 30inch shaft (this one has gone)
-KT Murrell tulipwood with ebony points and bridged veners 29,5inch butt and 29,5inch shafts
(was my first overlength cue and never will miss it - after years of playing I've to thank Kenny for this great cue)
-Titlist conversion from KT Murrell with 30inch butt and 30inch shafts
(awsome piece of rosewood Kenny used for the butt)
-Tony Zinzola after my specs with 29,5inch butt and 29,5inch shafts
(great player with all his four shafts)

Also got this one a few weeks ago from a german cuemaker. It's made from a ebony-cocobolo sneaky blank form Schmelke.
The cocobolo turns out great with the ebony nose. Cue got a black horn joint and is 29,5inch butt with two 29,5inch ld-shafts.
Great player with a incredible hit.

Not quite 60

Gus Szamboti, new shafts by Barry
59.5" equal length butt and shafts
Butt 16.2 oz
New shafts (2006) 4.4 oz (13.0 and 13.1 mm)
Old shafts (mid 1980s) - no data on hand
Balance ~19.5"

It is often said that older guys like heavier cues. Guilty as charged. ;) It plays great.

A 60" Gus. Doesn't get much better. LUCKY GUY! :)

All these cues are awesome. Any suggestions on a mid-level-priced cuemaker that builds longer cues?
