lemons to lemonade
@Willycornbread
A disaster took place at my home not long after I had Glen (Real King Cobra) here to completely fixup my GC1.
Basically, a kitchen leak came down into my rec room and completely wet my table along with some walls, ceiling tiles and the carpet. It was a freakout scenario.
I called Glen for advice, he said he was in VA but he would come back up to CT to redo my table and a few days later he was here. Amazing!! :thumbup:
I decided that as long as I was getting into some rec room reconstruction, why not get rid of the lally columns and so I did.
The poor carpenters (friends of mine) were tortured with this install that they said was way overengineered by the architect. A bunch of lam-beams sandwiched by 2 3/4" steel plates running almost the entire length of my basement.
Just getting the 2 steel plates into the basement and in place took 3 days.
They said I can now land a 747 on my roof.
A temporary support wall had to be built before removing the columns, then install the laminated beams and plates, then pretty it all up.
Friends and family thought I was nuts.
I say all's well that ends well. :wink:
best,
