You really do under estimate me.
Do I really under estimate you, I don't think so;) Do you know exactly how much you stretch Simonis when you install it, if so...how much do YOU stretch the cloth from side to side, as MOST mechanics install cloth from end to end first, therefore they really have no idea how much it's stretched from side to side at all;) Where is the first place you staple the cloth on, as that will tell me how YOU install the cloth?

Ok OTLB, here's how I start installing the bed cloth, I quarantee it's way different than the way you install cloth.

Side Pockets.JPG
In this picture, after I've straightedged the cloth to the bottom edge of the slate, I come back and mark the cloth 13/16" of an inch from the edges of the side pocket. This is the exact amount of slack I'm going to allow for finishing the side pocket on this side of the table. This stretch works for all the different types of cloth I've installed over the years I've been working on tables. But, also keep in mind the pocket cuts, only use this measurement when recovering oversized deep cut pocketed slates, as this will not work on bar tables, the slate pockets are to small for this amount of slack in the pockets.

In this picture you can see my marks on both sides of the side pocket.

Side Pockets (3).JPG
In this picture, you can see the first place I attach the cloth is on both sides of the pocket, about the first 4-5" on both sides. After I've attatched the cloth here, I then stretch the cloth in both directions to the corner pockets on the same side. This is where you can stretch the hell out of the cloth to the corner pockets, because you don't have to worry about coming back and stretching slack in the side pocket. You can staple the cloth in the same manner I'm installing it with my glue, but you just can't stretch it as tight, all you have to do is pull the cloth over to the bottom of the slate liner instead of the bottom of the slate like I do.

Side Pockets (4).JPG
In this picture, I'm pulling the cloth to the corner pocket, sticking it there about 4-5", then coming back and sticking the cloth between the corner pocket to the side pocket. Once this is done at both ends, this side of the slate is done.

Side Pockets (5).JPG
In this picture, this is the opposite side pocket. I premeasure the slack in this pocket at 5/8" of an inch on both sides of the pocket, the reason it's less than the other side pocket is because when I stretch the cloth from side to side, I gain slack, so 13/16" of an inch turns out to be to much slack in the pocket.

In this picture, you can see I've stretched across the slate, and into the pocket from both sides, attached the cloth about 4-5" on both sides of the pocket. You may think there's way to much slack in the pocket and I'll never be able to get it out, but...

Side Pockets (7).JPG
in this picture you can see that after I've stretched across the slate, and to the corner pocket away from the side pocket, the slack is gone. At this point, I haven't even stretched across the slate between the corner pocket and side pocket to attach the cloth there yet. With the Simonis 860 I mark a 3" side to side stretch on a 9ft slate. I hope this explains to you guys a little some of how I install bed cloths;)

I have always found the folks at Simonis to be very responsive. I believe they are interested in earning/ maintaining customers.

That said, they do have a PITA email contact system: you email them, they email you back to verify you are a human, you reply to their email, you get answer (you then buy product:thumbup: ).

Glen - you've got er down to a science! Thanks for posting that and also for what you use for your pocket inserts. I've used thin cardboard for a straight edge before on say Titan or Mali cloths at the side pockets but never needed to on corners. Worsted cloths are a different story and especially Simonis. Thanks again

loosing it

ya, maybe next time you do a table at a retirement home, I could learn step two. LOL See ya soon. Ron:grin:

on my phone now but I have never measured my stretch because there is nothing left. Your method I don't agree with and have questions but will wait as my finger is tired and my opponent is putting the heat on me

Nothing left?...LOL define what that means, as in nothing left with you stretching the cloth...or me?;) If you don't pre-measure the cloth for stretch first...you really have NO idea as to how tight you're stretching it;) you're ONLY guessing...LOL

When I am done putting on the cloth there is nothing left to it that I can stretch. Although I am working on a new method that will allow me to double stretch the cloth. It will be unvailed at the mechanics tournament. Guess yes, but an educated one it is. You stretch your cloth across from one side is that right? You do one side and then bring it across 3 inches while the first side you do is anchored? Just so I understand your method is that right? First you leave slack for the side, then you yank to the corners, then you go across and pull from one side to stretch across the table. If I am wrong tell me but thats what i gathered from your posted instructions?

That would be correct.
