Does anyone use and recommend the Simonis x-1 cloth cleaner? It's expensive so I'd like some input before I buy one. Mitch

It works well, but it won't single handedly keep your table completely clean and in top condition. There's probably a thread on here somewhere about table maintenance. Everyone has their own preferences.

Mine does a very fine job. Better than anything else I have tried. But I keep my table covered when not in use so I do not have to pick up a lot of general dust. It is great to pick up chalk and powder.

Its not perfect, but its a great time saver. I like it better than other quick methods like sprays or foams.

How do you clean it? Doesn't have any instructions. Just curious.

vacuum cleaner

a good gizmo, gets under the cushions, ergonomically designed, not much of a premium price compared to buying a couple of good brushes, with the added advantage that it removes the chalk from the table instead of just moving it around until you vacuum the table.

I vacuum mine with a Dyson cordless vacuum and then go over it with the X-1 and it comes out great. The Dyson picks up all the chalk and dust, and the X-1 takes off most of the stains and the really fine chalk.

So I recommend the X-1, though it is on the pricey side.

I think it's ok for between regular cleaning, but I think it is overpriced for a micro-fiber cloth on a fancy handle. ..I wouldn't recommend it.

My experience with it is that it works well. A fair bit easier to pick up chalk with it than with a brush.

I have one. It certainly works for a quick clean, but it's not a substitute for a vacuum. The theory is that it generates static electricity which will attract the chalk and lift it up. It does indeed do that effectively. I got one because people often describe a brush as just "pushing the chalk around". But I have decided that you know what, a brush actually works along the exact same lines. Brushing the table generates some static electricity that actually pulls the chalk into the brush. How do I know this? Because if you shake or rinse your brush, you'll see a crap load of chalk come out.

So in the final analysis, I do like the design of the X-1, but if you already have a good brush, it's probably a fine option for the same quick clean purpose and a hell of a lot cheaper.

Back about 40-50 years ago a lot of rooms would run a small vacuum close to the brush as the brush was systematically worked around the table. This works ten times better than just brushing or vacuuming alone. (Note that It's quite important to avoid lingering the vac near the slate butting lines in order to not loosen any portion of whatever seam filler your mechanics applied.)

The X-1 removed table markings drawn in pencil.
Had to redo them with a Sharpie.

X 1

I have one and it is great. It is a quick touch up, however, I still use a rail brush plus a regular brush, and Dyson hand vac. I use the X1 as a finisher, or alone for a quickie.

It is nice to have.
