Simonis x-1

caught my attention till I read that it costs $90. That's extreme for a single home table owner. Depending on performance, it could be a GREAT buy for room owners though. Think I read that you can't use it on napped cloth or teflon treated cloth, mostly just worsted. Granted I dont know which cloths that removes from the list, but important fact none the less.

I've used this for commercial and home use. I actually think it would be better for home use. Seems to be ideal for the person who plays a 3-4 hour session, who then cleans the cloth afterward and then covers the table. It definitely beats lugging around a vaccuum.

I saw a review on AZ and thought I'd give it a try. I purchased it for my home table, but I also wanted to try it at my wife's place of business. (Rusty's Billiards in Fort Worth, shameless plug)

First.. on my home table. I have a 9' Brunswick century. This is the same type of table that is in a lot of commercial establishments. They're usually 8', but we have a 9' version. Pockets were tightened and it plays great. Have Simonis 860 on it. Got a 'Dirt Devil' mini vac, but this didn't work as well as I would have liked. Seemed the vac didn't do as good of a job as a good brushing.

The first time I used the X-1, the table had not been cleaned or brushed in a month or so. It gets fairly frequent use, but nothing like a commercial table would. That and we don't use any hand chalk or powder at home. But there were plenty of cue chalk marks all over the table.

I read through the instructions, which were pretty simple, and gave it a go.
WOW!! That was my first impression. While there were spots of the table where balls have been jumped and stuff, the table was clean. I mean clean. You can do the rails as well, and I did. Also clean. Very clean.
Now I got excited. I couldn't wait to try it on the tables at Rusty's.

We went up a little later that day. Was a weekend, Friday I think. Tara Williams was shooting on one of the 9 footers there, and I asked if she'd mind if I cleaned off the table. She and the bar back had been playing before he clocked on, and from the look of the table, they'd been at it for a bit.
It's also Simonis 860, and they have the light green Master's chalk, so it showed up really well.
Did this table, rails and all. Looked great. For the spots that had a good amount of chalk ground in, you had to go over it a couple of time, but the X-1 does pick it up.

I ended up doing all the 9 footers there that night. The bar back, who goes out and brushes down the tables after they're used, and before a new customer gets the table, told me that after me doing the tables with the X-1, when he would go out and brush them down, it seemed a whole lot easier, and a lot less dust than before.

So.. I'm very happy with my purchase. Well worth the cost to me.

I can think of a couple of pool halls I'll be taking to, to clean my table before I play.

Hope this is what you were looking for..

I would have to agree with Ponytail. I have a Billiard retail store down the highway from you in Austin. And we have a Connelly Ultimate set up for playing and trying out cues with black simonis even and the first time I used it I too saw an immediate difference. from me.
IMO It's well worth the investment for home or commercial use.

Damn u guys. I thought i was done buying pool gadgets. ;( Now I gotta go get this thing. Ill let yall know how it works. cause ive tried everything on my table; brush-vacume-chalk off and anything else I can get my hands on what can I say? Im a sucker for new gadgets. :D

Designed to fit under rails, so it replaces two brushes and vacuum cleaner.

Much less work and tables look great.

I vacuum the X-1 whenever I use it.

if you cant say something nice or positive then dont say anything, so IMO "__________________________________!!!!!!!!!!".

I know that this is probably asking too much, but perhaps someone can go to the effort of posting a video of this gadget in action on youtube. I am a consummate cheapskate (that is what happens when you get an accounting degree, as I have - no damn fun spending money at all!) and would like to see if this actually works if I am considering spending $90 on it.

Ditto from me it is the first table cleaner that doesn't SUCK...lol and it works....no matter the price, the product works it saves time and best of all wear and tear on your back!...Every poolroom should own one!

:groucho:So, this thing works better than my Kirby vacuum??

:groucho:

Questions:

If you used silicon spray on the cloth, how does this tool react when cleaning the cloth?

If you use Chalk-Off or some other cleaner, how does this tool react when cleaning the cloth?

Does the tool cause table rolls or frayed cloth?

I use my Dyson with the brush attachment, nothing works better then that. You have to be careful that your cloth is glued down well or it will lift up.

No dude, no stinking cop outs here E, spill it. I for one dont have $90 to throw around and if I did, it wouldn't be for trial & error... Rather learn from your mistakes... lol. Fess up... ?
