Size of dowels and blanks for shafts?

What is the the best size for shaft blanks or shaft dowels? I'm looking for a timeless timber shaft dowel.
Anyone have one for sale?

Are you looking for one finished turned, or are you looking as a stock dowel. If you want finish turned it should be around .520 at the ferrule end and .875 at the collar end.

If you want just a dowel it should be 1 inch diameter x 30 inch long. If you want a square for a shaft it should be at least 1.5 square X 30 inch long.

I really do not know what you want, but I hope this helps give you some idea.

you want .520 at least. I am sure it was a type-o
.520=13.3333 mm

I have some .950X30 Timeless timber shaft dowels I bought last year and some 30" shafts turned to .860X.535 lake salvaged old growth I turned in 2002.

I'm also a big fan of curtailing mis-info. It can be a very dangerous thing when someone starts to believe it and passes it on as fact.

FWIW, a mm = .03937"

Since this falls under the heading of mis-info, you state that .520"=13.333mm. Actually it's .520"=13.208026mm. Sorry, couldn't resist.
Just pullin your chain a little.
 
YA ya ya I only went .039 makes a difference... Damn I gotta get a better set of mics.. mine only read .0001
