slight warp on new cue..

i just purchased another low end cue , it is a elite wood to wood joint no wrap 19 oz 12.5 shaft for $135 , wen i got home i put it together and looked down the cue as u would to a piece of 2x4 it seemed fine but then i rolled it on my table and the shaft seems to have a waep towards the joint part of it , now i kno its a low end cue but should i be concerned or let it go ? i shot a few balls with it and it seems fine , ....
 
well i have now played bout 3 hours with it and i dont like the way it hits , it has a radial pin wich i think gives a soft hit unlike my other cues ,what can i do to make it hit harder besides me smashing through balls?
 
If you want a harder hit then you'll want to change the tip for sure and possibly the ferrule as well. It really depends on what you have on it now and what you want to spend. As far as the warp goes not un heard of with lower end over seas cues. You might have a bad face on the shaft or the butt have a cue guy in your area re face them might take care of the warp.......Dave
 
face them? u mean on the lathe ? well im thinking of buying a tiger shaft and hopefully itll solve all my problems i bought this cue cuz i love the way the butt end looks , it does have a long ferrule and it came witha layerd tip ...
 
Consider the OB-1 for a low deflection shaft, I've heard lots of great things about them, but even the Tiger will definitely be an improvement over the cheap shaft you have now. If you're going to replace the shaft, I wouldn't worry about a slight warp in the original. Layered tips come in soft, medium, or hard. If you like a hard hit, get a hard tip.

It hits softer not because of the radial pin.
It hits soft because it's made of low-end wood.
Besides the cheap joint and glue they use.
 
The OB1 shaft will make it hit even softer. It's a great shaft, it just gives an unusually soft hit to the extent that you won't feel the ball as much.

The shaft choice is your choice but I'm more interested in the straightness of the cue. Have you rolled the shaft & handle separately ?
If they both roll true when apart but only wobble when put together then the problem is definitely the facings at the joint. A reputable cuemaker can reface both in the twinkling of an eye. All it takes is a thou. or 2 at the joint to give you a very noticable wobble at the tip.
 
Sean, If you make your next cue purchase in the three to four hundred dollar range, you will find many good cues available at that price. Then you won't have to tweak the cue to make it hit or feel good. There must be two to three dozen cuemakers that make good playing cues in that price range. Just check around.

For under $200, I don't think you will find many good cues. That's just my experience.
 
If your brand new cue is already starting to warp, that could just be the beginning of a piece of wood that was still a bit green when they turned it down. By next month it could look like the letter J.
Take it back NOW.

About the only cue you will find for that price that will play like $3-400 cue is a Sneaky Pete, like Huebler.
 
yes i rolled it seperatly and only the shaft was warped, and the only reason i bought this inexpensive cue was for the look it has,although i have a lucasi under 200 it hits solid and i have won alot of games with it,im very big on viking cues but i havent seen anything i like but my next purchase is going to be a pricier cue...

nice very nice cues,,so if the ob 1 hits soft does the tiger hit hard? i hope it does wish i could do some testing before i purchase..

I just bought ONE piece of wood for a cue yesterday --- its square and needs to be turned to round before you can play with it:) It was $200 USD before the shipping charge:rolleyes: And it still needs two shafts, ferrules, tips, joint protectors, exotic wrap.:D :D

That's what I'm talking about. And I bet it will be a helluva cue when it's all done, but not for any stinkin' $200.

Oh, it will be a helluva cue:D It might not go out of my shop as fast as my customers would like but it WILL PLAY:)
 
so u guys mean a custom made cue will or might be better than any aftermarket shaft? i have thought of having a cue custom made but im worried if it wil hit like i want , if it hits like my viking then im ok i kno evry cue has its own "soul" if u will but i think anything is better than this elite cue , im just hoping an aftermarket shaft will cure the soft hit,warping and feel....
