Slowest pro players?

Archer has to be included as well. Probably wouldn't be slow if he would stop picking so much lint off the felt.

Odd thing is I can remember just a few years back when Archer played much faster. Watched him at Valley Forge in 2007 and while his skill unquestionable it was a complete bore watching him.

If they play slow and are making the shots then that is what they should do. I am sure that these pros would like to make it entertaining but they want to win first. I am sure thta if they speeded up and lost that people would say oh man thats the fastest loser in the game. Or man he is slow but what a great player leaving with that big check. I know where I would want to be.
Drago is just amazing, but thats his speed. All I am saying is this is how they make a living and as ebntertaining as we want it to be right now will not make any players take a chance on losing in order to keep a few people happy.

johnny archer gets the nod for the guys-and that doesnt include picking the "lint" off the table and karen corr for the ladies-she shoots great but the wpba invented the shot clock for her matches.

Not Knocking Anyone

One thing that may get lost in this thread is that we, me for sure, are not knocking any of these players for their style of pool.

There is no way in the world I would knock Johnny for being meticulous or DB for taking his comfortable amount of practice strokes.

I took this thread as, more or less, tongue-in-cheek and hope that everyone else feels the same way.

I've never seen anyone as slow as Charlie Bryant!!!! I watched several matches at the pro tourney at Kolby's, and every one that Charlie played ran about an hour over everyone else's time. I personally believe that's why he beat Efren. When they were playing, Efren was watching the other matches around him, and I think he just forgot he had his own match going on...:boring:

Ditto that.

I watched him played 9 ball in WPC last year. After every single shot he would go back to his sit and sand his shaft and wipe his cue. :yikes:

Without a doubt, Danny Basavich has to be the holder of this "less-than-prestigious" honor...I watched him, live, at the 2008 SBE in Valley Forge...he was playing Thorsten Hohmann in an early round match...he did so much air-stroking, neck-flexing, head-bobbing, and toweling off between shots that I don't know how Hohmann stayed awake nor why he didn't ask the T.D. to put the clock on Basavich...it was pathetic, unnecessary, and totally unprofessional...!!!
That match, by the way, stretched well into the time-slot for the next series of matches...again, why the T.D. (Frank Del Pizio) didn't react to "speed him up" made no sense...it was totally ridiculous...!!!
Danny won the match you forgot that part.:grin-square:11-0

When Archer was young and just starting on the pro tour he played at a good pace and he was a force to deal with. Since he's gotten older it seems he's slowed down to the point of boring to watch. I used to love to watch Johnny play, but when I go to the US Open I never watch his matches anymore. He just isn't fun to watch, but he gets the job done and I guess that's what matters to him.

If it takes you an extra minute to make a shot.... take it. Its better than missing.

Honestly, when I speed my game up, I pocket less balls. When I slow it down, I play better and my opponent plays worse.

All due respect, there is a difference between playing within your own pace and slow-rolling your opponent. Purposeful slow-rolling is not in the spirit of the game IMO.

That is all well and good, but the ipt is hoping to get people to pay a monthly fee to watch their videos. Sigel counted 32 warmup strokes for Robles on one break shot. I counted seven minutes for him to run a rack after his opponent came up dry including a minute to study a straight in shot in the side pocket where he rolled forward two inches. Even Sigel was commenting on the slow play. It simply isn't entertaining to watch that. The straight pool was far more entertaining.

It really hinders his game too.

As far as accustat evidence, the slowest I've seen is Pagulayan.

those were Alex's intermission number. but atleast those were done to entertain rather than bore the audience. and I believe the audience love that. without his goofing around, he plays relatively fast.

that was when I was still a novice. Pros are neither novices nor amateurs. they should play the way in the level they are under, PRO LEVEL !
