Smoke in your home room?

I'm not trying to promote smoking, just telling a story here.

I grew up in a small mid west town in the 50's and every one smoked. All the farmers had cigars, pipes and chew and cigarettes were common. I liked the pipes and cigar smoke and was fascinated by the marksmanship of some when they hit the brass spittoon. Even though I have smoked cigarettes at times I never liked the odor, cigars and pipes are different to me.

My table is in my garage and I allow smoking in there if non smokers are not present. I know none of the smoke is good for a person, but there ya have it.

I miss some things about my child hood, especially the old pool halls with the Brunswick tables and drop pockets and how they smelled.. I like a cigar when I'm in a marathon session with a friend.

God Bless America!

I know what you mean. When I was a teenager (a mere child) I remember going to the pool hall on a hot summer's day and buying a big (16oz) bottle of Pepsi-Cola, taking a couple of swigs from it, then pouring a small bag of Planters salted peanuts down the neck. Man was that some good stuff.

Now Mostly the younger crowd uses vaporizers..

The cool kids like to see how big of a cloud they can blow out..

I thought I was the only one that liked the peanuts and pop thing. For me it was a $.15 paper cup of Doctor Pepper and a nickel for a fistful of peanuts from the vending machines at the old community center pool room where I started playing.

Right on Tramp

Thanks Tramp for the trip down memory lane. I forgot about pouring peanuts in our Pepsi and Royal Crown sodas. Used to love it when I was a kid!

Smoke

Always hated it. Always will. Lets see how can I shorten my life at least 11 years? Hay I'll smoke. Looks cool too. That should do it. Do they put a pack in your coffin?
Nick :)

it was the downfall of pool not the elimination of it.
too many people stopped going to pool rooms because of the smoke, myself included. then the downturn in the economy came and the smokers who were the ones left in the poolrooms stopped coming because they were broke. they tend to have less money and
being in the minority left the poolrooms with no customers.

Man Tramp, did you bring back some memories with that one. My favorite was peanuts in a bottle of soda.

I am glad that smoking is ban in the pool rooms. There was just no need for it except picking on girls when you can ask them for a cigarette to break the ice.

Anyways, I am a fan of nostalgia and I miss when pool rooms were non-family friendly.

Food at my pool hall is seldom served now. I don't know what it is but people are buying less food. The days of grabbing a couple bags of peanuts and emptying them on a tray are long past. I don't think my pool room sells any peanuts.

Less gambling, less money to spend and people don't stay long so they don't buy food. Other customers are coming from dinner or playing before dinner.

I like to know how these pool rooms are doing with full kitchens. I wished we had that hear so I can go and grab dinner and play.

Great thread. Smoking is cool(not) until it you die from it. Oh what the heck you can't get out of this world alive anyway. Xsmoker since 1989 by way of Cold Turkey.

I'm sure glad a few stopped in to let us know smoking is bad for you..... thanks Dr. Obvious.

I have a ventilated cigar lounge in my basement, separate from the main area where the table is, so the smokers can go in there.

I am a smoker. Terrible habit/terrible addiction. They got rid of leprosy now they have smokers. I smoke outside obviously. There is one poolroom I go to that allows smoking but I am so used to smoking outside that I don't feel comfortable smoking inside anymore.

Think he was talking about the 60's and late 50's , in a nostalgic way , not doing social commentary.kind of nostalgic , to a simpler time in his life. Pool halls were bustling then because there were maybe 7 or 8 television stations in bigger markets and less in smaller cities .No cab;e , no internet , and in some cases no color T.V.

People actually watched and went to minor bowl games , i actually looked forward to being out of school for Christmas and watching the bowl games , some on UHF channels. If cigarette smoking effected pool , it was after people began to have other entertainment options.
