Smoking and Pool Halls

I quit playing completly for 3+ years because of smoking - have no interest in speeding towards the grave or smelling like shit the rest of the day/night.
Most smokers are the most inconsiderate people I know - they don't care about anybody else's health, the nasty smell, they throw the butts on the ground/sidewalks etc. Too early to get worked up by a group of people I never spend time with other than the rare exceptions(Philly for example) who are courteous. :)
Jason

Thanks man. When you coming up?

Spoken like a true non-smoker!..I have been a heavy smoker all my life, (I will be 83 this month) but I have always tried to be considerate of non-smokers in my everyday life..
PS..Whats next?..I can't have an aspirin for my headache, or a drink to calm my nerves?...

Your life your lungs nobody has the right to tell you what to do. And should get C you'll need the booze and aspirin. And morphine.
As far as considerate smokers go. Give me a Fkn break. They will be remembered that way. That's about it. Cancer still kills considerate smokers. Are they considerate as the non puffer has to wait 10 minutes while the considerate smoker takes a break. Blow that smoke up someone else's butt.

So smoking is banned, but your state allows pot. Little wonder your state is ****ed up.

I'd say we are better off than most states. If only they could do something about the rent around here. lol

Colorado has received so much tax money from the sale of marijuana in all of it's various forms that the state put out a referendum in which they asked "What would you like? Would every citizen of Colorado like to receive a check or do you want it to go towards education?" They voted to put it towards education. To the contrary, Colorado has their act together.

Once again, I'll lay it out for you. If your state bans smoking in such a way that there aren't loopholes, meaning in any sort of public building, then it doesn't affect businesses in any meaningful way. We've proven it here in Maine.

The only exceptions here are private clubs (Elks, Eagles, etc). So wherever you go, be it bars, restaurants, dance clubs, pool rooms, you name it.....ya gotta go outside to smoke. No one is going to go out of business because smoking is banned here, because you can't go somewhere else and smoke indoors, period. Everyone is on the same playing field.

Its been over a decade here, and people have adapted. It's really not a big deal. Many of us non-smokers will go outside with our smoker friends when they need to have a smoke, to carry on a conversation or just hanging out with friends, it all works out just fine. (Save for sub-zero temps in January, lol)

(And many of my smoking friends have adopted that same philosophy when they are in their own homes, going outside to smoke so they don't make their homes smell.)

That's why they call it dope. Decriminalize...not legalize. If money was not involved it would never be considered. Recreational pot. Medical pot. That's why it's call pot. Sanity has gone to pot. The Dr. writing Rx's....$100 per script....and the lines are long. Fk me. I should have stayed in school.

(I will be 83 this month) :
Happy birthday in advance. Here's cheers to another year. I hope I live that long.

Exactly! And who the f#&% plays pool next to a campfire
I might quit BBQ'ing.

I live where the pool rooms all allow smoking, and I'm a non-smoker who generally doesn't mind some smoking. My wife, on the other hand, cannot tolerate smoke at all. We've tried some pool rooms with less ambient smoke than others, and one with a non-smoking side (but it was still smoky, and restrooms on smoke side). Eventually we gave up and stuck to a non-smoking bowling alley/arcade with good tables and BYO cues.

Now we can play at home, but yeah, it's a real problem in Ft. Worth, TX.

I am a non-smoker and support the bans, and I think pool halls can be fine with a ban, as they are here. However, there CAN be an effect on a hall. Hard core smokers may choose to stay home or not stay as long.

How that is off-set with non-smokers who will now come out, or stay longer, or people bringing kids etc, is not clear. My guess is that some may do better and some may do worse.

That may very well be true, but I'm skeptical that there will be a significant number of people that have to smoke so much that they stop going out. As I said earlier, this has been going on for over a decade here, and I'm not aware of a significant hermit population, nor do I hear folks lamenting that "so-and-so" doesn't come out any more.... I know plenty of people that are pretty heavy smokers, too. They just deal with it, like everyone else.

So nice to see so many of the sheeple following the masters dictates. Your masters said smoking is so terrible, so you must believe it. Never question it, just believe. Never look at any real studies on it, never look into how their studies are done. Just believe. Your masters are so proud of you all. ;)

Oh, by the way, you all are a bunch of hypocrites too. You cry and whine about the smell and dangers of smoke, yet have zero problems driving cars to get where you want to go that pollute the air everyone has to breathe. But, let's not go there, because that is something you like to do and want to do.

It does find a balance. Pool players work it out. A first class room will survive with smoking or without. Before the ban I did go into a smoking room occasionally. Did not like it but I did it. In Florida there are both. I'm not rushing into a smokey joint. But if bbb will play me 8-8 and let me break I might meet him at Amy's for lunch & time

Neil, those cars aren't spewing their exhaust fumes into a closed room that I'm in.

Yes, there are lots and lots of things that are bad out there. It doesn't have to be an "either/or" thing....if we can reduce issues associated with smoking, lets do it. If we can reduce other problems, lets fix those as well. But they aren't dependent on each other.

And again, plenty of smokers that I know have changed their life styles as a result of this ban here. They also realize exactly how bad smoking makes your clothes smell, and no longer smoke indoors or in their cars. This is not an isolated few, I've heard it dozens of times over the years, as well as having visited several homes where they go out side to smoke.

It is a tangible effect. And it is far more courteous to each other. As a result, the non-smokers go out and hang with the smokers when they need to have a smoke, too.

I'm actually in Fort Worth!

Just for curiosity sake... are you insinuating that the vast amount of smoking research (much of which has been used to sue tobacco companies for BILLIONS of dollars) is falsified by scientists and governmental elites?

Not Apple to Apple's ...subject is smoking/non pool rooms. Aside from cigs yes we(I) are hypocrites. I do not always wear a face mask or respirator when wood working. I do use a dust collector. I BBQ. My Mustang adds to the pollution. I blow out my garage with a gas blower. The fumes and dust are horrible. I apologize for drifting the subject...Smoke or Smokeless pool rooms to lung cancer/quitting. Maybe I can help support someone that wants to quit and needs a push other wise I know better than to tell anyone what to do. " Your masters said smoking is so terrible, so you must believe it." I do. The dead one's don't. I don't need The Master to figure it out. Do what you want ...believe what you want...smoke what you want. Sheep...ya man

One of my home bars here has a bar area for smoking with fans that keep the smoke from escaping the bar even if the doors are open to the billiards area. This is a good compromise I think. I for one do not like smoking, in fact I despise it. I hate smelling it and hate being around it. But, if a bar is set up in this way then everyone gets to have their fun. Cool. The rest of the establishments here are non-smoking save one or two that I wouldn't go to anyway.

I'm saying it's rigged. I have seen it first hand, and have had doctors tell me the same. Follow the money, as with everything. I'm not saying smoking doesn't harm anyone. I am saying that it is so blown out of proportion that it has become absolutely ridiculous.
