Once again, I'll lay it out for you. If your state bans smoking in such a way that there aren't loopholes, meaning in any sort of public building, then it doesn't affect businesses in any meaningful way. We've proven it here in Maine.
The only exceptions here are private clubs (Elks, Eagles, etc). So wherever you go, be it bars, restaurants, dance clubs, pool rooms, you name it.....ya gotta go outside to smoke. No one is going to go out of business because smoking is banned here, because you can't go somewhere else and smoke indoors, period. Everyone is on the same playing field.
Its been over a decade here, and people have adapted. It's really not a big deal. Many of us non-smokers will go outside with our smoker friends when they need to have a smoke, to carry on a conversation or just hanging out with friends, it all works out just fine. (Save for sub-zero temps in January, lol)
(And many of my smoking friends have adopted that same philosophy when they are in their own homes, going outside to smoke so they don't make their homes smell.)
