I opened my room 20 years ago and the smoking ban went into effect in 1998. My business dropped immediately by about 10%. I was disgusted with the law, because smaller bars could thumb their nose at it and the police would do nothing. In a few years however, most of my customers returned because they really liked my place. Now I go home and my hair doesn't reek of cigarette smoke and the clientele overall seems a little better. I don't need to worry about second hand smoke either. So, even though I don't like the government sticking it's nose in people's businesses, it's worked out to be a pretty good thing here in California
