OK, I got my tit in a wringer on another thread about snooker and pool, or something like that. . .
Anyway, I've got nothing against snooker and would like to play some . . .problem is the last snooker table I saw was in Bankok in '89.

any snooker tables in the Phoenix az area?? Seems there are a goodly amount of nice pool halls with some nice tables. I'd drive a ways to shoot some snooker, just so I'd have an up to date idea of what I'm talking about.

I have only ever seen one 6x12 snooker table in the USA in my entire time there, in the Cue Club in Las Vegas and the thing had gigantic pockets compared to alot of the snooker tables we have here in Canada that are cut for competition closer to what the pros overseas use. I don't think it had a proper snooker cloth on it which has a nap either, that totally changes the game.

TBH I doubt you would find a proper snooker table in the Phoenix area that could really give you an idea what the pros in the World Championships are really doing. Even here in Calgary it would be hard these days, we might have 4 or 5 tables total that could sort of compare and even then they are not as tough as the ones the pros are playing on.

Here is a site that has a pretty good list of all the snooker tables in the US: http://www.findsnooker.com/
Unfortunately, it seems that there is only one snooker table in Arizona and it is in Tucson.

And according to that site it is a 9-foot, which is not really a snooker table at all.

I am looking at the tables around the country and almost all of the tables in Califonia advertise their 12 foot tables as having fast napless cloth for golf. That is really not going to give you any idea as well, nap cloth adds tons of different variables and changes the way the balls roll hugely.

I was shocked that Texas has that many snooker tables. I know of 5 or so here locally in the Houston area that are all 12 footers. With that said, a drive from the south side to the north can take easily over an hour, and that's if traffic is light.

Yeah, it's kinda like the difference between a nine footer and a 6 foot bar box.
Thommy, you ever get down to the Houston way, let me know. I know where some 12 footers are and would be glad to show you.

We have a 10' table in one of our rec centers in Green Valley, AZ. south of Tucson.
Gets lots of play, guess we're lucky to have it.

Thanks Bob for that link to the rooms with snooker tables. Very informative.

I hate to derail this thread, but does anyone know of a similar website that lists 3 cushion Billiard tables. I do enjoy playing all games.

Not so oddly enough, of the dozen 12x6 snooker tables I've played in the US. All but one were much much much tighter than any snooker table I've played on in England and Germany.

That would be on the USBA website: http://www.usba.net/ -- click on the menu on the left side "Billiard Rooms Nationwide".

Met up with the Meucci dude at Kolbys Korner at 5 this afternoon. He brought a ringer with him and we played a little 3 man snooker on the 5x10. guess who got to shoot after the ringer??:D

Actually I met two really cool guys today. Daniel is a great guy and has some very pretty Meuccis, and Steve (the ringer) is a great kid who served in Afghanistan for us.

We played for a couple hours and my high run may have been 4 balls (yes I may be exaggerating) I know I ran the last three at least once.

Snooker is a hell of a game, I wish I could have played it 40 or 50 years ago.

Thanks to Daniel for the envite and I'll take 20 pts on the start for about a $1.98 anytime you are ready.

Well, with a full 3 muchs, I am guessing you are refering to the dreaded
"Golf" tables. A full fledged hate crime, IMHO. But then, I really like Snooker
in all its various incarnations.

What can I say, you sir are a gentlemen and billiards is a gentelmens game. Thank you for coming and playing snooker with me, it was an awesome feeling playing the game after not seeing a snooker table in over 8 years. Thank you for the kind words about my old beat up Meucci's, they are like my kids and I love them so. We will have to do this again soon.
