I have just finished off a gross of blue masters chalk. I feel like a better shooter because of it :D Hah. Who has finished off a box, 2, 3, 10!?

How many hours or years of play does that represent?

Wow 1 peice every 6 months! Well I guess i have had it about 2 years now, countless hours. I do tend to get robbed often and tend to be frivolous. But I do also like the way a new chalk chalks. How much chalk could I chalk chalk if I chalk could chalk chalk?

I only use chalk till its a little less than half used on the one side (Ive seen people who peel the paper off and use the ofer side too). I have "used" a piece of chalk up in one night, on more than one occasion.
Ive gone through 2 full gross, and countless dozen boxes over the years since I started buying my own chalk (I am very particular about my chalk).
Couldnt begin to estimate how much "house" chalk Ive gone through over the years.

Once i got serious about playing, bought my table, cue and started buying my own chalk i was shocked at how fast i'd go through it. Either house cue tips retain chalk exceptionally well or i just didn't give chalking a high priority while finishing my beer :)

blue hands?

if half of that chalk is still on your hands, then yes, you are a pool player.

i went through my first gross of chalk in the early 70s. i am afraid i have lost track since then.

I had a friend who when done playing would pick up the used chalk on the table and put it in his cue case. Just an odd habit.

A few years later, we had a major tournament coming up at the pool room and realized we were almost out of chalk. All the local billiard supply stores were out also except for a small amount.

I called my friend and asked if he had any and could he bring it to the room that evening.

He brought in 3 full gross boxes of blue Masters slightly used chalk. He said he still had 1 full box of Masters green at home.

The owner of the room was slightly pissed but grateful. From then on, he called my friend "Packrat".

I don't have a clue how much chalk I've used in playing for 45 years but every year when I go to the BCA Nationals, I take a small box of a dozen pieces with me in my case and 10 days later it's gone.

I think in the past 3 yrs, I've probably used up maybe 1/2 case of chalk? IDK really. I had a new cube of green masters chalk and it lasted me nearly 3 months before someone swiped the piece!!!! and it was about half gone.

Chalk caluclations

I buy my own too and have no idea how much I have used. I use about a third to a half of a piece of chalk before I leave it at the pool hall for others. I usually finish off a piece in 1-3 days, pending on how long I play. If I play/practice for a full 14 hours or more I will almost finish off a piece. So, I think I can get like 18 hours out of one piece. If you chalk after almost every shot and use most of the top surface not just dig a well into it you can figure:

18' x 144 pieces = 2592' / 24' = 108 days of playing per gross.

Now, I'm guessing between sitting in the chair/racking/periodic breaks vs having runs/shooting drills and so forth, let's say you chalk about every 30seconds on average when playing. (hey you gotta start somewhere and I am not about to time or count out a study for this :) ) You can figure:

18' x 60" = 1080" x 2 chalks per minute = 2160 chalks per cube of chalk.

Keep in mind this is real chalking not just a swipe...Now, BAH! *just kidding* I'm done. OK now that is just silly. Did I really just calculate that? :D

man, that is a lot of chalk to go through! one cube lasts me like 6 months

Hey, when I chalk the sucker squeaks, I make the blue cube cry! How long do you think those enjoyable moments last? Not too long, one of those babies will last maybe two or three days of continuous playing (what paradise!) :D

By the way, some folks can't take that squeaky stuff, kinda like dragging fingernails across a blackboard for them... screeeeeeeech.... just listen to it now!

That is just too funny.

BTW, do you relaize I get about...311,040 chalks in gross box of chalk? Man I thought I could keep from going there, but I just couldn't help myself.;)

I've had my pool table for just under three years and my snooker table for about 10 months. I play pretty much every day and have friends over, etc. I've used (to the throw away point) about 4 or 5 pieces and have 5 just broken in pieces in use now.

In order to calculate this accurately one might want to know how often the tip is picked. After being picked/roughed the surface is ruffer (more abrasive :D ) and will therefore cause more chalk to be removed from the cube on each use. As the tip is chalked and then used it will become gradually smoother and therefore remove less chalk from the cube on each application.

Interesting ONLY if you exerience OCD.

i just started my gross of chalk ill see just how long it take for me to use it...if i ever get to play...i will play more this summer

Without sharing, I could pretty easily go about six months or more on a single cube, playing ~20 hours per week.

Good Rolls,
