So I watched the SVB vs Efren dvd...

After watching this I had several thoughts about it. Before I get started though I want to make a few things known.

1. I think SVB is currently the best rotation player in the world.
2. I believe Efren to be the most gifted man to ever screw a cue together.
3. I own about 50 or so pool dvd's, most accu-stat matches.
4. Any company that creates, promotes, distributes videos of this nature is an absolute credit to the sport and anyone who works with them in any capacity has my respect.

That being said....I was not overly impressed with this match. Perhaps TAR hyped it up for me but I was just expecting more. This was probably the worst I have ever seen Efren play hands down. He should have completely dominated this match with all the kiss scratches Shane had on the break. Several times Efren had, what would appear to be for him, a routine out and simply did not execute. Which leads me into my next beef...

The commentary....oh the horrid commentary. I know there are alot of Billy Incardonia superfans out there but I just dont see it. While it is very evident that the man loves the game of pool, and thats great, I have yet to hear him say anything worth listening to from a play by play standpoint. Furthermore, to state several times over the course of this match that he thinks Efren is getting old and has lost his touch is completely unprofessional and shows zero class. I dont care if you shower the man with compliments before or after you say it....it is just uncalled for. Not even going to get into the part where he is obviously eating something and still trying to talk a hundred miles an hour. Shannon Daulton. Lets just say that Shannon certainly did not miss his calling to the broadcast both and leave it at that. Personally My favorite commentators are Grady, Danny D, and Nick Varner. You dont get to hear Nick do too much commentating but when you do it is always a treat.

If you havent seen this yet I would give the quality about a 7.5/10 . Not bad but not what I would expect for 25 bucks a pop.

Just my 2 cents. Take it for what you will.

I don't know about your guys copy quality but mine seemed like the pixels were terribly off. Most times I could not tell what ball was what.....and yes the commentating was terrible, they were either praising efren one minute and the other minute they weren't.....

I totally enjoyed a change of pace with the commentary. It actuallt kept me awake the entire time.... Daulton's and Billy's commentary was the hype of the selling this DVD. IMO. The pool playing was not thier best but still head and shoulders above any of us could ever play.... Especially for the kind of dough/pride they were playing for.
Just my opinion...

I think you should have said that Shane is the greatest 10ball player in the world.(maybe) No way is he the best at one the most popular games in the Philippines. Rotation.

2.
How can you own close to 50 Accu-stats dvds and just now, have a problem with the commentary of Billy Incardona? Billy is the "voice" of Accu-stats.

3.
The atmosphere in the place where this match took place was unbelievable. Perhaps some of the hype you talk about, was more about the match than the DVD.

4.
Your 13th post comes off pretty negative for someone who thinks
"Any company that creates, promotes, distributes videos of this nature is an absolute credit to the sport and anyone who works with them in any capacity has my respect." I think TAR did a great job at capturing one of the most talked about matches at the DCC. It almost didn't happen at all.

I meant any type of game where the balls are pocketed in numerical order, guess I should have clarified.

Ive always had a problem with his commentary, I thought that was implied. But I have never heard him talk so negatively about a player.

The atmosphere was great, I was there for a few days at the end of the event. I guess I just expected more from this match up.

TAR did the best they could with the set up they had. Im pretty sure they are bringing in some pretty big dough though with the popularity the site has gained and through merchandise sales. I would expect better audio / video quality in the future if I am expected to pay a premium fee for a match.

I dont think the number of posts I have made really has a bearing at all on how I choose to express my opinion on something.

Best announcers

The best announcers by far are the TAR guys themselves, particularly when pool players are just stopping by, guys dropping in like Ronnie Wiseman, Jeanette Lee or whoever. Fred Agnir is good. The TAR guys are the best. Watching these videos I feel like I am in the epicenter of the pool world. For example, I really enjoyed watching the match of the Cub dude and the flogging girl in Las Vegas. It was amateur but the commentary was just like a time capsule of what was going on in the pool world in that minute. The last thing TAR should do is have announcers like Incardona or Grady (no offense). TAR is different, and that difference is what makes them special (and the action matches).

I own one TAR dvd and have to say I really enjoy it and the quality is fine with me,I have owned lots of underground gambling matches that were taped in HI8 and whatnot so there stuff is not bad at all. Before TAR came along we could not see all this great action from the tourneys that goes on after hours,to me its better then the tourney matches by far.I have heard some great commentary and not so great but I do commentating also and I stink!,but some like mine, its all your preference.I personally like Jimmy Mataya but some say he has too much color and to me that is awesome,I dont like dry commentary that bores me.I want to hear stories,if its 9 ball you know what is going on for the most part so telling you they are coming one rail with outside for shape annoys me.TAR is the best thing since the leather tip in pool.

FYI, that includes Rotation, which is played in numerical order with all 15 balls.

If he would like to play Efren in that game, I think Efren would like to bet even higher than last time

It was.

I find it hard to believe though that you've never heard him say anything worthwhile while commentating on a match? Really, nothing?

Anyway, I will say I haven't seen this video yet but one thing I like about the TAR stuff is that it's rough and crude and unedited. I watched a lot of the feed from last year's DCC and I really enjoyed the comments from Tony Chohan and Scott Frost and others. My wife, on the other hand, didn't think so much of it (that's why I don't bring her to poolhalls anymore ) but I think it's basically what you would hear in an action oriented pool hall. I'm not looking for these gambling matches to sound like what we get on ESPN.

I like Billy and Shannon, but thought the pixels were off too. THe cues seemed blurry especially compared to the SVB/Lion match. With that said, I love TAR and what they are doing for the sport and fully intend to support them in whatever they produce.

Ok, im sure he has come up with a decent 1 pocket shot here and there lol

And I do remember him getting a really nice dig in on Grady one time... It was during an Archer - Reyes match I have from the 2000 US open. Billy questioned a shot that Archer took and Grady reminded him that while they are both in the booth utterly defeated that Archer was trying to win the US Open for a second straight time. Then Grady says something about how at least they arent like you and remembered to send in their entry fee on time. Billy pauses a second and goes - Well you sent yours in and Im in the same spot you are. That was pretty funny.

Grady is sharp as a tack though cuz he got him back later in the match. Billy commented on another match in the tournament taking an exceptional amount of time to complete. Grady says, well you dont know whats going on over there. That match could be rife with safety play, just like your head is rife with nonsense...

So the guy that is going to start a thread and give his expert opinion on what is right and wrong about a DVD, the play in the DVD and the commentary doesn't even know the definition of rotation pool?

At first I was going to ask this Intotherail what he thought the DVD was worth and offer him the difference since it hurt his financial status so much to buy it - - but now I think he simply owes TAR an apology and a donation to their site. Please copy and paste your Paypal donation to TAR and you will be forgiven for talking out your _ _ _

Wow. Is 10 ball not a rotation game? I'll hang on to the dvd since it is probably the only actual evidence of Efren getting 3 fouled.

That explains the size of those boys!!! They give "fatboy" a new meaning

Serious, you really think they are living large off this?

I just had to quote this because that is some funny sh!t right there. LOL We are getting ready to upgrade the TAR jet to a G IV.....just like Fiddy uses.

The quality on the SVB/Efren disc is not what all of our other ones are unfortunately. It is either a mastering issue or a capture issue. I am still trying to figure it out. It is the first time it has happened. It pisses me off to tell you the truth but I can only do what I can do.

The first thing I learned doing this business is that you can't please everyone so just do the best you can and stay true to what you started for. We have done that. A lot of people like it and many don't. So be it.

There is not one single commentator we have ever had that someone didnt complain about. Not one, and we have had a bunch in two years. So we just pick the guys we like and we happen to love Billy Incardona. He is the absolute stone nuts at action commentary and we would use him on everything if we could. Shannon did a hell of a job IMO and had me laughing the whole time. If you are looking for ball by ball instructional commentary we have never been very good at that. They captured the spirit of the evening very well IMO but I completely understand if that is not everyone's cup of tea. To each his own.

I don't think $25 shipped for the best American gambler playing the best player of all time a race to 23 for close to 6 figures is out of line (To be honest if the video quality was what our others were it would have been ten dollars more). Probably cause I am such a baller from all that TAR dough rollin in but if anyone is unhappy all they have to do is contact myself or Chad and ask for a refund and they will get it.

I am now going to jump in one of my three TAR owned Ferrari's and go make it rain at the Rhino.
