soft tips.....am I alone?

For years I played with LePro tips and liked them AFTER a month of breakin.
Then when layered tips came out I tried em all. Once I found Talisman soft I stopped looking..........BUT....I'm on my last one and looking to try another as a test.

So, if you like soft layered tips, and they are not Talisman......let me know what you are playing with.

Right now I have a soft Talisman on my OB1 and like it a bunch, but I'm a tinkerer at heart...

thanx, G.

Typically I prefer a harder tip, but for softer tips I like Kamui Black soft.

From one tinkerer to another...:)

I have used elkmaster for years. Its a great soft and not much else beats it for the price. Well im a tinker also, and wanted to try a harder tip, so i made my own by compressing them. That evolved into making various solutions to soak them in, different compressions, etc. Its been a fun process and I've "made" exactly what i want in tip. Grab a whole bunch for cheap and make your own!

edit.. just realized you said layered, oh well. As most people would say kamui is a good way to go.

I recommend and install quite a few Talisman soft. Never had any complaints.

I am currently using a Black King soft and thoroughly impressed.
The people that I have installed Black Kings for like them as well.

If you like Talisman, give the BK a try. Pretty sure they'll grow on you too.

Same as the Talisman, no mushrooms and never have to reshape.

I've seen some people say that Kamui SS is not really that soft. Is this true?

I have a new Kamui soft on my playing cue and it plays harder than my previous medium tips (Moori and Sniper). Not a fan of the hardness...

I just switched from the Kamui S to the SS....At first it was too soft...so I did what you are supposedly not supposed to do to a Kamui...I used a pic on it and now it is perfect....don't ask me why

I've been playing with Moori Medium for several years. Last year I switched to Moori Soft. That's the best tip for me. Holds it shape, has never glazed over, and surprisingly for a soft tip, has never mushroomed. Gives me an excellent draw from one end of the table to the other with little effort. I can't remember last time I mis-cued. I've tried a Kamui Black when I was using the Moori Medium and I liked the Moori a lot more. Tips and feel are extremely subjective, so you should try several tips to evaluate which you prefer. Good luck in your quest for a perfect soft tip for yourself.

Too cheep to change

Its a Kamui Med for me and I think its way harder than any other med. Im too cheep to change so I cant wait to wear it out so I can try a soft or ss.

I had a Kamui SS installed at the DCC. I really like it. I've had the Kamui
softs before and liked those also. I can't see changing back to the softs
after playing with the SS. Kamui SS all the way for me now!

I've been trying the green layered Emerald by Tiger.

It's softer than advertised and feels nice.

thanks for the info everyone! I think I'll pick up one of each......the black, ss, and maybe elkmaster to learn compressing them. We used to smash LePros, but i play so much I had to work on them weekly.

You might try a Muellers Dudley, (they are pre-smashed Elks) and they are cheap. I love them!

From the Rail comes the question:

Why do you like soft tips ? Better control of the QBall ?? Better Draw ?

Railbirds wanna know? not that we 'd get up and bet waters wet.

To me, it feels like a Moori Medium as far as hardness. Not soft at all. But it holds it's shape better than any tip I've tried. Very consistent also.

Maybe just bad luck but the last 2 boxes of Elkmasters I purchased were crap. Maybe 20% usable. The rest just fuzzed up and I had to cut them off and start over. I gave away most of a box to a friend of mine who just got a lathe. I'm not installing them anymore until their QC gets better.
