some opinions on 3 cues

In the near future, maybe at DCC, I'd like to
buy one more cue. My choices are Richard
Harris, Andy Gilbert, or a Bill Schick if I can
find one I can afford.
For years I played with a Meucci Original.
In recent years I have liked Dave Kikel,
Jeff Olney, & Tim Scruggs.
Many of you have probably played with
several of the cues mentioned.
Based on what I like, which of the three
would I like and why? Thanks.

I would have to say that if you're looking for playability alone, go with Richard Harris first (but only if you like stiff).

If you're looking for playability, execution of and creative design, and collectibility, then you would have to go with Schick.

I think personally, Andy Gilbert would not be on the list with these two.
 
IMO, you wouldn't go wrong with either of these three cuemakers. The first two will be more 'affordable'. Bill is not making many cues now and his stuff will remain in on the more expensive side. I would think all three will have somehwat of a different hit that the cuemakers you mentioned having recently.....of those, my favorite hit would be Kikel. Also, strictly considering hit, IMO either BG or AG is your best bet.

Pharaoh, I like a stiff hit for 8 ball but I mainly
play one pocket. I didn't realize Harris had a real
stiff hit. This is the kind of info I was wondering
about. My Olney has kind of a stiff hit but I
still like it. The Kikel & Scruggs do not seem that
stiff to me. Are Schick & Gilbert considered
stiff hitting cues?

All of them. All three hit great because all three are constructed well. I don't know whether any of them are stiff, but they're not whippy and they don't toink.

Andy will be around for a while.
Bill all but stopped making cues.
Richard has a backlog that he's trying not get longer.

BTW, Andy and Richard go to the DCC.

I have 2 Gilbert cues. One is about a level 6 and the other is one of his J/B cues. His workmanship and finish is excellent. Nice playing cues. I was using the J/B as a player. A great cue for $400. Can't give a honest opinion on the others since I have never seen them.
 
I have never played with a Schick but I have owned cues made by the other 2 makers. I sold the BG and I currently play with the AG. I just like the way the cue plays better.

I'm the opposite .. I personally like the hit and the style of Blue Grass cues. So that would be my choice. However, it's more expensive than Gilbert cue. Schick, I only have one Titlist conversion cue with stainless steel joint and it's very "old school" to me.

At DCC, I guess the buyer can look and feel the cues in person and perhaps even test drive it.
 
Just put calipers on a recent BG cue in for a wrap change. Identical butt specs to South West!

Shick, Shick and Shick Again

I own two Bill Shick cues. The stiffness and taper of his shafts make for a hit that is firm but definitely not stiff or hard. In addition to playing great, they are going to hold and even increase in value.

Bluegrass would be my personal second choice. Again, they play great and will hold their value.

I, too, own two Schick cues, and completely agree with your description. He uses about a 9 inch pro taper on his shafts, which hits very nice, IMO. Bill's thought on stiffness is that a very stiff shaft causes the player to lose some of the feel of the hit. I think he is right.

If the original poster doesn't mind the additional up-front investment my advice would be to go with the Schick.
