Unfortunately we often know what we want to teach, but you need a hungry audience first.
Great post!
I tend to assume when someone asks me a question that they are "hungry" for the answer......Its becoming clear that its not always true....I cant count all the times someone has ignored the perfect advice I have given in response to their urgent question (about life, not about pool).
My wife has a high school education and I'm a lawyer, but she regularly tells me I'm wrong about things, even when it has to do with the law!
It seems at times she is more likely to believe what a homeless person tells her than me. In my frustration I have actually said at times "please go find someone you will listen to, because you dont listen to me!".
I will try your method, the next time my wife asks me how many sides on a stop sign, I wont say "8!", I will say "my smart friend tells me its 8"
Sorry to drift off the topic of this thread, but I think this thread is about why people dont take good advice after asking for it, and what to do when it happens.....(nothing against walking away however!, except my wife follows me when i do it)
I've shown lots of people how to make a closed bridge and most of them are able to make a good and solid one. Seems like 80% of them are back to their donkey bridge the next time I see them. I'll never understand that. They say they wanna be great but..
I practiced that bridge non stop til I had it right. I thought it looked cool lol. First few months I was learning to play I told the guy that was teaching me that I wanted to buy a cue. He said " you don't need your own cue you suck". Which I did.
I owed a guy a favor. To pay the favor back he wanted me to go to his house and watch him play a few minutes on his table and then show him what he might be doing wrong after 5 years of playing. I watched him run a rack of 15 balls twice. First time 3 missed balls 2nd rack 4.
I could see his stroke wan't very straight so I asked him to hit the far middle diamond with center cb and no spin. After he shot the shot 4 times and was way off on them he said, "Come on lets move on to something else. this shot don't come up that often anyhow. I just walked out. Johnnyt
