Sorry Fatboy.... the orange 5 is not coming back!

In her defense, Emily did admit that the decision was wrong depending on what the players or the pool fans were used to. What I don't get is why they sat down with Aramtih, designed the new balls, started prduction before even once thinking about what the players/viewers/fans would say about the new design. Just do a simple research beforehand.
With this in mind, I also tend to believe that the changes were purely made to generate interest for a new product that basically no one really needed. If it works, it works. Personally, I hate the fact that they went from white to black, I don't really care a lot about the purple 5-ball. Sure, it sometimes irritates me when watching but everyone will eventually get used to it. Wasn't there a similar discussion when Cyclops introduced their balls? Their colors were pretty unconventional too.
Matchroom is a multimillion dollar company. I assure you the subject came up and was discussed. These people are not stupid. They just decided against the wishes of the majority, and for the showmanship factor. No way anyone here can tell me this wasnt discussed AT LENGHT before making their decision. If you believe that, you have no clue how a promoter of this magnitude operates.

Of course Emily is the first person to receive/feel the backlash of the players, the community, the fans and that's how it should be. She's highly involved in everything and she wants to establish and sell a very professional product, therefore she needs feedback from all sides.

As for the color change of the 5-ball. I don't blame her, well, not her alone. She sat down with THE biggest manufacturer of billard balls and wanted to introduce a signature product to use in her events. Aramith sure was cooperative because it's just another opportunity to make money off a product that rarely needs replacement.
What bothers me though, is that with all the history and experience Aramtih has in this industry, why didn't they intervene when it came to changing the color of the 5-ball? Why didn't they say no? Why didn't they look for a color that hasn't been used before? Do you believe that they would have changed the color if they already knew that nobody would buy the new ball set because of that?
Both of them, Matchroom (Emily) and Aramith wanted a product that is new and controversial. They certainly got that right.

If they wanted a controversy to bring attention to the sport, they couldn't have chosen a worse subject to create a controversy over.

The only people who will care about a change in ball color are people who are already passionate about pool - no casual player is going to exclaim: "OMG guys - did you hear they changed the color of the 5 ball for Matchroom tournaments?"

This color change simply adds another level of confusion to an already over-complicated sport.

Will this conversation ever end?!? If the color of a ball upsets you to the point where you need to complain about it for a month straight, you should really evaluate your life and make some changes. Whatever you are currently doing is not working.

"When you little scamps get together, you're worse than a sewing circle."

This is pure speculation. Rest assured that I have no inside information here. I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that the purple five will, at some point, disappear.

That said, I don't think Matchroom would change the ball set in the middle of a pool year. At the beginning of a new season, I suspect the change will be made at some point. We shall see.

This is likely. After a while, a "new design" also sells a ton more sets to people who want to be "like the guys on tv!"

The 5-ball is still purple….if you want to roll over with all four paws in the air, have at it.
..my grudge with messing with the color code is pattern recognition.
…when I played chess, I would only play with the Staunton design….I’m looking at patterns, I’m not going to identify pieces also.
..balls should be as identifiable as chess pieces….players have more important things to do.

so changing the colours was bad enough, but SWITCHING a color for another is unpardonable, IMO

You can poop on the balls, piss on the players, spectators, and viewers, everyone will still congregate like it's their last meal. The game is broken, not the color of the balls, somebody felt the need to make a statement of control.
Emily should worry more about that horrible wet look, 1/2 slicked back dragon hair style and leave the balls alone.

No, she should worry more about not looking like amateur hour. When you don't know that the ball colors have been the same for a lot longer than a century, and when you don't know that the player/spectators almost exclusively use the ball colors to identify the ball order and which ball is which, and when you won't correct your mistake even after you become aware of them, it makes it look like you are clueless and like you have no business running a professional pool related organization, and it makes your organization look like amateur hour, and it is going to make it much harder for people to fully take you and your organization seriously.

Her hair should be the least of her worries right now but I don't happen to mind it, at least for a short term look anyway.

What pool fan can honestly say he loves this video? I want to know. I really want to cut down on my swearing, especially when using the English language, and instead work on expanding my vocabulary, to avoid ending up like the stereotypical swearing foreigner. I'm appalled, outraged, almost apoplectic at the sheer arrogance on display.

We made a mistake, we know it was a mistake and you guys did nothing, so bend over and take it. At least she's in the right sport.

That they are also doing something I've always advocated, which is standardizing the pocket, is purely incidental and not an example of good intentions. You've seen their faces now. When they lube you up and stick it to you, you can't say you weren't warned. Matchroom has in fact tried to change snooker many times, but were stopped by the conservative English sentiments regarding the sport. They've found a playground now, where they can do whatever they want. THIS is what they wanted to do with snooker:
,Here are the ridiculous rules of "power snooker"
Can't wait to see what they have in store for pool? I'm thinking full on circus, with clowns, elephants and blaring air horns. Also, BTW, I can't be the only one seeing the connection to power snooker, with the colour scheme and all?

We already have that. It's called the Mosconi Cup.

I agree.

Mid season it is a bad idea.

Also for the record, I’m not mad at MR or Emily for the mistake. We all make mistakes and changing mid season would be another mistake

Yes I’ve been very out spoken about this, not in jest. I’m very serious about my feelings about the ball colors.

I hope it’s corrected and forgotten about next year. That would be the smartest decision of all. I hope she sees this post and I applaud MR for everything they are doing for pool

Sincerely
Fatboy

Exactly, I get grey cloth for contrast, black on the 9 to distinguish from the one on monitors, like it or not because there is a RATIONALE for those changes. Like chess, we quickly look at the lay of the table and calculate the pattern of the current shot calculating optimal play based on something necessary 3-4 shots from now. Our brain, based on familiar patterns is not going to "read" the numbers on the ball, it would calculate based on the colors. Most here have been wiring these color patterns for decades.

I appreciate what matchbook does for our sport however once you admit you made a mistake, fix it.
