South West Cues-Why $$$ ????

Good luck Greg. You already got one of Brad's SW's didn't you??

Don't be such a SW Hoarder!!!

Be well my freind :)

Southwest Cues

Everyone I know that owns a SW didn't like the weight and they sold it.

In this instance, I think people are buying into the hype of the cue because I have yet seen a SW that is worth the money that someone paid for.

The shaft taper isn't for everyone either . . . it's not a bad hitting cue (I've been using my friends '87 Southwest cue for the past two months now), but I just don't see the $3k value in it.

Most cues (to me) from a reputable builder (to me) hit REAL GOOD (to me) . . . give me a good joint, a good tip, good shaft material and a blindfold, and I probably wouldn't know the difference between a $300 cue and a $3,000 cue. But, that's just me (once again). I've got McDermotts, and Schon's and customs . . . they all hit great - but they ain't cost me over $1000 for any one of 'em.

If you got the rupies, and want a Southwest - then go for it. Fine cue. I just don't see me ever owning one, let alone any other $1000+ cue. Anything over that (to me) is window dressing or ego . . . it's prettier, but it don't play better. I make the cue "play" - the cue don't make me a "play-ah". It's a lot like the golf club marketing scheme - if we believed all the hype, ANY golfer buying a new driver every year would be driving all of his tee shots 400 yards (minimum) . . . ain't gonna happen.

Take some lessons and practice.

Brad, anytime my friend! Love that cue.
Russ got to keep finding more SW cues.

Just the other night, one of the better players in our area was offering the 7 ball to anybody in the room for $200 a game.
Since I placed and order on a SW last week, I said to him...

"Oh yeah? Well, you just wait 10 years from now buddy boy!"

i dont understand it they are plain for the $$ you can get a super schon that i think will play just as good and to me there is no difference in the 2 if schon is a production cue so is south west they are way overpriced and the waiting list is crazy but to each his own i guess

I would almost agree with you if Schon still made cues with razor sharp veneered points and added a flat faced joint. I just never developed a like for the CNC'd point look.

Never shot with a SW, but

I have never shot with a Southwest, so I can't say anything good or bad about them. The worst cue I ever owned was a Schon, all the hype and I bought one. Terrible shaft for me, had to get an OB just to shoot with it, and still didn't care for it. Just one man's opinion.

Best I have played with, and maybe the only thing I will ever play with again is my Josey. Had one, loved it and moved up the ladder to one I loved the looks of. Everyone that shoots with it loves it.

I would like to hit a SW just to see what everyone brags about.

Well if it's about the points look at a Dan Janes custom cue...he still makes sharp pointed cues...apparently Schon will not.....

But of course this is not about that.....

Another Josey fan here...and BTW, he does & can make sharp pointed cues. I have one...:)

Eferen Reyes also have a beautiful 8 points wrapless Southwest.

Southwest is famous for their playability worldwide hence the high demand for them. They are definitely worth it as both player and investment cues.

Pretty sure you meant router'd or mill'd look.
