South West experts. Please help me.

Not an expert, Hal, but SW's do have a parabolic taper. Problem is that usually with a parabolic taper, even though the joint doesn't touch the surface it's being rolled on, the light you see shouldn't vary much and yours definitely looks like it has a little. Parabolics are notorious for looking worse than they are. The only true test I know is like what was previously mentioned. Put it on a lathe...

Sorry to hear your SW doesn't measure up, Hal.
I have a Bender with a parabolic taper...and there's a very slight variance in the roll on it (not as obvious as yours...but it's there).
When I put the shafts on, though, the cue rolls great. Has no impact on how the cue hits or plays....and I just accepted it as "one of those things." Hunter and paulybatz are right....put that bad boy on a lathe, and see what it looks like.
Either way it pans out, hope things work out for ya, sir.
FWIW - it's a real nice looking cue....and I know you said that it played great for ya.....so maybe you can find some middle ground??

i seen a chinaman have one that was 100 times worse than that...he sent it to profeccient to be looked at...as i recalled the wood that was used when the cue was cored was the problem...alls i know they fixed it but had to disassemble it and had to have a new wrap...i think it was $300..im no expert just have seen this movie b4

I have a friend that have the exact same SW cue in NY and the butt and 1 shaft is perfect, the additional one has a slight roll. The cue weigh in at 18.6 - 18.7 with either shafts.
I'm picky about my cues and this southwest is as close as perfect that you get. He wants $2200 for it with the 2 shafts, PM me if you are interested.

Hal, please post when things are settled on this deal. This has been a bad deal for yourself and thingie. I'm sure you can find another nice SW cue in the price range that you paid for this cue. I don't blame you for not being happy with the cue and I don't care what kind of taper a cue has I don't think the butt should be raising off the table when you roll it without a shaft attached.
Just curious if SW are such great cues then why do so many people say that they have funny rolls?

There is expected roll on most sw cues to a degree. Just because a cue rolls bad doesn't mean it hits bad, in this case it would seem there was more roll than expected. Yet I do believe hal said the cue hit very well.
Playability isn't always effected just because of a tiny bit of roll to answer your question without discussing this particular cue.

I think for SW, you should roll the shaft and butt separately to check for straightness. The butt has a slight taper on the upper forearm near to the joint area. So you might expect a slight wobble in the butt area. The shaft should roll straight on its own, if not its warp.
