Southwest "alternative cues"

I'm very dissapointed in Indy Q Shops posting on their site of "alternative" cues....They are comparing them to Southwest cues throughout the advertisment even stating "Features Butt And Shaft Tapers That Are Too Close To Close To Even Mention." Also, They compare order times and even % off of Southwest packages. Why is a great custom maker such as Mike Stacey (stated maker of "alternative cues") producing Southwest cue copies.
Ms. Franklin has continued an amazing company after the loss of her husband and a slowed economy. Please let HER make SOUTHWEST cues and sell YOUR OWN designs.
Finally....Southwest cues must NOT be overpriced (as stated by Indy Q Shops) if COPIES of their cues are selling at 40-60% of retail price for AUTHENTIC CUES. Their statement reads with reference to Southwest Cues...... " Mine Are Terribly Over Priced In The Billiard Markets Of The World Today."
I am not against Indy Q Shops or Mr. Malott......I am a fan of Southwest Cues and hopefully a friend of Ms. Franklin...Please let Indy Q Shop know what you personally think of this advertisment. Send Email:

they aint selling for that much cheaper than what I see here second hand.....

and if I want a southwest I'm gonna buy a south west not get something that is a southwest alternative.

nothing hits like a southwest but a southwest

nothing hits like a meucci but a meucci

if i wanted mike stacey to make me a cue with the design of a south west (the art) then thats cool....its a stacey cue.

but don't let them fool you thinking that mike stacey is making a cue thats basically a southwest b/c it aint.

I always liked what indy q put up but i don't really like that crap....blatant marketing

I think the secondary market will show just how different the "Alternative" cue is from a South West.

most south west cues sell for $2500.00,mike stacey sw style cues sell for much less, compare the hit and see if they are worth the difference.every cue is basic,sw 6point ,9 point, merry widow .sneaky, szam ,every cue is after something so i wouldnt put alot of stock in what there called

I guess the only question I would have is what's that say about the guy who is making them's ORIGINAL cue designs?????????? It's one thing to be established and make a tribute or two, but is this the way you want to get your name out there?

People who frequent Indyq's arent looking for junk replicas. Looking at the veneers on the couple they have pics of... reminds me of my crappy predator sneaky.

There are plenty of custom cue makers out there willing to make a southwest type cue, and theyre more often than not... going to be a lot cheaper than those pieces of junk, and also be hand crafted with pride and not pure exploitation in mind.

that said... the more I shoot with my Olney, the more I adore it. He makes cues similiar to that of a southwest, but best of luck getting him to try to replicate one. He really REALLY does not like the inconsistent colored ring work that you far too often see on southwests.

I will trying and interject some common sense in this thread.

How many people are building a Southwest TYPE, or Southwest Inspired , or Southwest Tribute Cue?

I recall several years ago the web-site CHALKERS DOT COM listed a Coker Cue and comparing the “Hit” to a Southwest Cue.

Honestly IMHO “HIT” is like HOT SAUCES, what is Hot to other people is MILD to me! I like EXTREME HOT SAUCES!

I honestly do not think there is any real way to judge “HIT”, as it is like Hot, it is a personal thing.

I think Mr. Malott is just doing some creative writing, but apparently he has had some customers trying out his “New Alternative Cues”, and what they say is below:

BTW you can like Mr. Malott’s Web Site HERE, to View what is being talked about..

JMHO.

"For my Investment the Alternative Cue Value Package Is Great in the billiard world today With Lower Priced Packages Than SouthWest Cues Offer."
Dick M. , Indiana

"I have Played both of these cues and truly believe the playability and value of the new Alternative Cues are fantastic in comparison to that of the SouthWest cue I Owned"
Alan E., New York

"The alternative cues by Mike Stacey are the best playing cues I have owned. I like the playability of these cues versus that of more than 20 SouthWest CUES I have owned."
Sandy O., Indonesia”

How many have copied the SW look, pin and taper then marketed them as alternative to SW cues?
For that matter, name another time it happened.

my brain literally hurts after trying to read that website.

i dont think southwest has anything to worry about.

I am starting to think Coco Cowgirl IS Roy Malott!! My brain hurts from reading Roy's site and my brain ALWAYS hurts trying to decipher the Cowboys broken english:eek: I feel like throwing up:grin:

What I'm saying is, at the end of the day, no matter how hard the dealer spins it, all the slick-talk marketing in the world won't change the fact that if a buyer ever wants to resell his "alternative" cue, he's more than likely going to lose what it would have cost him to have sprung for the South West in the first place...

I wonder if Monopoly money will be accepted as an "alternative" form of payment for the "alternative" South West.

Bottom line - a REAL Southwest is the only Southwest! All the other "copies" are just that, a copy.
Why this irritates me so much I'm not sure, other than Jerry Franklin was a friend of mine and a helluva guy! If someone tried to sell me a cheap copy of his cue I might buy it and break it over my knee in front of him. Yeah, that's how I roll sometimes. :nono:

You deserve rep for pointing this out. It was a really bad idea. I hope Roy changes his plan.

Bruce, does Coker have the same look, pin and taper as SW ?

Joey you missed the point, the "HIT" was described as "like a Southwest" by a Web Site Called Chalkers. They said their Coker had the HIT of a Southwest!

I also do not think you can MEASURE HIT, I think hit is a Personal Interpretation. Different Wood Product different Hit IMHO!

I have never seen no Hit O Meter. Have you? Or a Scientific way to MEASURE HIT!

Oh Yeah.. I remember that site... the one that was run by a person that scammed cue makers and customers out of cues and money.
