Southwest Amateur Tournament - Temple TX 17-19 OCT

You can still

Thats why I was curious if they would extend the entry fee deadline, only made sense since its not like they're going to be bringing in more tables. You'd think they'd at least take entries til the day before to try to get more people. Oh well, I'll pass on the info to my friends.

You can still call the number for the TD (469) 222-5969

But now with the number of tables at 10....you can't have 120 players

Hey picky

If the tournament is moved to the Green Room, which at this point seems to be the most likely, can you provide this information if possible.

1. How many tables are available for use.
2. Cost per game.
3. Room to play around tables, such as any tight playing obstacles.
4. Area around the Green Room. (safe area)
5. Hotels close too Green Room.

Sorry about the questions, but I don't like playing in rooms where you have sit on another table or move furniture too shoot. Also, my wife is coming so I'm concerned about the area.

Thanks,

Hey don't forget the weight of the house cues, in case yours gets nervous and stays at the house :grin-square:

Hope to see you there.

Thank Ray & Steve for the information.

Steve, as soon as a decision has been make please let me know so I can cancel the reservation at Harker Heights and book one in Temple.

I'll say one thing, it's not like you guys didn't try.

Over the next few months tough, tournaments are going to get tougher and tougher in our region as the market gets mor and more saturated. There won't be a winner.

Entry & Elixir

Just paid my scotch doubles entry and will pick up the hair elixir before heading down there next week... I've been told if you rub that stuff on the cue ball it will dance on command ! :p

I got cold feet on the singles, but I know the magic phone number !

Thanks

We're doing our best but the economy, gas prices and as you said the availabilty of so many tournaments make it harder and harder.

This tournament was originally started with the idea of giving players a chance to play the BCA State or BCA National type of environment with Diamond tables and a large entry field.

That was/is a good idea, but Diamond tables are no longer a drawing factor by themselves. There places in TX that have them and it's been a few years since their introduction so most of the players have been exposed and know how they play.

It's hard to get added money when you're paying a large fee to bring in the tables. With games costing a dollar each, and the cost of hotel and food, the gas etc., etc......you don't get the mini tournaments to go as well as you like hence it's hard just to make the tables pay for themselves, let alone get any extra to go back to the players. Sponsorship is tough if you're not well established and the TABC (SP?) makes it next to impossible to get any kind of tobacco or alcohol sponsorship.

To hold a tournament of this size requires a venue large enough which involves a cost and then they want to charge $4 a beer and $2 a bottle of water.....it's hard.

The players get angry at the costs and then they don't sign up which means the tournament slowly withers away and can no longer be held.

If the players signed up in the numbers they did last year....but what can you do? It's discouraging :frown:

I have suggested to the TD's that they think about moving this (If future events are feasible) back to the DFW area. The majority of the players except for the event last year in Houston are always from the DFW area. The players in my area are plentiful but for the most part "Social players' or " League Bangers". The majority of them don't play tournaments except State BCA. The small number that do play tourneys are not going to play in one that has an entry fee of over $20-30. So if you move it up there, you're not losing anything since they don't play when it's right in the area.

I feel for you Lewis, but at least Fast Eddies is established and you have sponsorship.

Take Care

Papa Red - You are da Bomb!

Charlie, Charlie, Charlie, you are a gentleman and a scholar, I don't care what Doug said about you. :D Just Kidding!
