Southwest Cues... BELIEVE THE HYPE!

I'm in dead rack!

I know this isn't the cue review section but after all of the "are Southwest's worth the money?" threads that I've seen over the years I felt like commenting...

So I just acquired a Southwest in a trade with Doug (DWBOD) and I couldn't be happier.

I've been infatuated with these cues since I found out what a custom cue was. And as soon as I realized there was such a thing as a Southwest I've been working my way up to one. There was something about the look and the sound of their name that just captured my imagination. Anyway... it arrived today, and all I can say is :

HOLY COW!!

Anyone that says Southwest cues are overrated, over hyped, or priced too high is freaking CRAZY :D

I've owned or tried out many quality cues, and most were touted as players cues, but NOTHING can compare to this thing. I tried to be as subjective as possible and let the cue do the talking when I tried it out today. It was more than I could have expected and I'm COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY!

The cue is what I would have called "a little heavy", close to 20oz, but it feels lively and incredibly well balanced. It has a distinct sound that resonates all the way through the cue. I would describe it as clean and transparent. I could not stop smiling the whole time I hit balls. This thing just seethes confidence and I hope it will translate to better play by me. I know all of the Indian and the arrow analogies, which for the most part I DO NOT agree with. Sure a cue is just the tool but if you feel better and more confident using it, your bound to play better IMO

I have NO DOUBT, there really is something to these cues and that the wait, price, and hype are well deserved.

Thanks to Doug for the hook up

Congrats on yours

I played for 7 years with a SW, they are among the best playing cues ever built. I have a few SW's my first one I bought in 86 for $350, LOL. I still have it, it has a "Ping" sound, i love it.

Personally, I don't believe there is a cue built worth the asking price these days,,but if like the hit, i pay it too..

I thought about getting a southwest but I don't see the point. I like the very plain one's with just points and no inlays on the butt but Anything I get I'm going to put an ob1 shaft on it so I might as well keep my Schon.

Great looking SW, I love them, Doug is a great guy to deal with, I have bought a few cues and cases from him. Good luck with the cue. I do feel we can sometimes buy ourselves a better game in pool as well as in golf. Tom

Blasphemy!!!

At least your honest about it but there is NO WAY I could bring myself to do that  Although I have seen it done (not on SW but other expensive customs), it seems to kinda defeat the purpose. If I was stuck on LD shafts (I'm far from it) I'd too would probably stick with something else.

I'm still playing with the Dishaw I bought in '94 or '95 because it plays so similar to both the Southwests I owned previously. Even at that time I couldn't afford to buy another SW but I would if I could. Persoally, I haven't hit anything else that comes close. My first one was similar to yours in style but with Indian Rosewood. Laurie told me it was one of the last they made with that wood because they couldn't get it anymore.
Great looking cue, enjoy!!

Im glad you like your cue. I personally dont care for Southwest cues. I know, I know, thats gonna piss some people off, but thats just how it is, lol. I love the look and feel of em, but I cant play for crap with one! My guess is that Im just not good enough to use one, lol. It really sucks too, because there are so many of that look so great, and I cant play with one of them! Ive tried, and I dont know if its the taper, the stiffness, or what, but I cant shoot worth a nickel with them! Maybe with 10-15 more years of practice, Ill try again, lol. Have fun with your new cue man, enjoy it.

SW shafts are available in two or three different tapers and various diameters. Perhaps you just haven't yet found what is "right" for you.

I did not know that. I thought they all came the same. Maybe you are right, maybe I havent hit with the right one yet, but it aint like there are a whole bunch of guys around here that have em either, lol. I guess Ill have to keep on looking for one that suits me. Thanks for the info man.
