The question is: If you don't use it during playing, why even make or discuss it in the first place?

The answer is: Because it is a way to describe what is physically happening on paper.

The next question is : Why would someone care?

The answer is: Aren't you curious?

Yes but whatever that's depicting can be numerated (think intellectual compression) to provide detailed reference to certain aspects of instruction <and> performance. Per the OT, 1 thru 10 instead of tips of english. This can be correlated to any movement or outcome within a shot.

That doesn't cover amplitude and leverage (distance from center) ? Time and a scaling number might work.
