Sport or game

sport vs. game

If it's not a sport. Why am I so physically drained after I play in a tournament? I must be doing something wrong.

The average time the football is actually in play in a football game is about seven and one half minutes. The rest of the time they are huddling and calling plays. A baseball game is even more ridiculous, as to actual playing time. These are two of our, "Favorite Sports." Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

If you could bet on the pool matches every Sunday it would be on morning ,noon and night.

I have stated I believe that pool is a game not a sport.I know the mental challenges and the hours of practice. You have the same thing with poker and chess. In pool as othe games there are no real physical challenges like in baseball, basketball even swimming. What are your opinions?
Remember no opinion is wrong!!

Pool requires hand/eye coordination. Poker and chess do not.

That's why you can play games like poker or chess online. Online pool is not real pool.

Beer pong also requires hand/eye coordination but I think I'd call it a game :D

As far as beer pong goes, as Jim Rome once said on the subject of what is a sport in connection with bowling: "Anything you get better at as you consume alcohol is NOT a sport."

Yeah, I suppose even just "pong" requires some hand/eye. For that matter perhaps nose picking should at least make it as an exhibition sport in the Olympics. It takes some dexterity to hit the target in that sport too.

I play golf as well, and I'm not hung up on either golf or pool having to be considered sports. If you want to call them both games, that's fine with me.

I just don't put pool players (or bowlers, or golfers) in the same category of athlete as say hockey or basketball players.

I pretty much agree with this, you can call it a sport if you want to but I wouldn't call pool players athletes.

pool/billiards is a sport
9 ball, one pocket, snooker are games

the same way baseball is a sport
catch, home run derbies, and 9 innings with 2 teams is a game.

'NOUGH SAID

Done competitively... yes!
And let's face it some have been training enough for the world championships. :p

:rotflmao1:
Then I found that there is a thing called Masturbate-A-Thon....
Won by fellow Japanese.....:(

Yea, we crazy people...

It's a sport dammit.

When they start paying out bigger purses, I will consider it a sport...until then, for most of us, it's just a game....a highly competitive game, but a game none-the-less.

I'll settle this!

If you go looking for a cue at Walmart, it's in the sporting goods section. If you look for a book on pool at the bookstore, it's in the games section.

There! :D

Pool is a skill.
NOT a sport.
If physically unfit people can play it at a high level, then there is no way it is a sport.

If you play the game good or better than average... it is a SPORT

If you suck at it... .it's only a game. :embarrassed2:

words

The meaning of the words have changed over time.

One thousand years ago the word sport meant hunting.Game meant gambling(gaming),cards, dice whatever."Sports" like wrestling and javelin tossing were called athletics.

Pool is both a sport and a game!

IMO pool is best described as a game.Calling it a sport is not a perfect description but its not an incorrect term.People say that the Olympics is for sports only but is it not THE Olympic Games?

I suggest we call everything a contest...oh wait that would make a fox a contestant...nm.
