Spot? How?

So frustrating... People negotiate games where they are getting spotted, then when you play well enough to fight it, they pull up.

How in heaven's name is one supposed to give a handicap and then not play well enough to justify giving it up?

It is enough to make me want to stay home and play with myself.

The reverse is also true. If the receiver of the weight fights & hangs on to win, the better player often wants to change the game. It all balances out in the total scheme of the universe:).

On a more serious note, that's the problem with not playing a person even-up. It's simple math; if you give up weight and win you didn't give up enough weight. If you give up weight and lose you gave up too much weight.

Many times a player just barely hangs on to win but the other guy wants a change anyway. That's pool.

I thought you could multi-task BB. :p

I don't gamble against many different people, so it's rare I experience this issue. But I've at times spotted heavily, played my ass off to barely outrun the nuts, and had the opponent ask for more balls. When it's close sets, there's no adjustment. Then they pull up and I never seen the opponent on the table again. Them peeps are called nits.

And that's why I mostly play against friends I respect on and off the table. Ain't nobody got time for that!

Most complaining I've heard around action involves 'crocodile tears'.
Action, for me, follows the rules of poker...try and take the other guy's
dough with what you got.

If you want things to be fair, don't gamble...every body keeps their own
money....which is fair.

Get back into action, B-B, and lay out some better stories.
When it comes to gambling, nobody owes nobody nuttin'.
( triple negatives are the nuts)

What was the score?
If they get a spot and still lost 7-2 then of course they're gonna look for easier meat :)

You no longer have the luxury of giving "just" the last ball, state champ!

Funny thing how giving / getting weight effects some people.
I used to play a guy who always wanted the wild 7 and no roll
out after the break. I was about a 25% winner in that game because
he played great when he got the 7! He could break and run, string racks
control the table. His safety play improved. Needless to say we
spent more time woofing then playing. When he was pumped up
from other action, i would play him with less weight and it was a almost
sure thing for me. He just wasnt the same player without the 7.
I played a friend even 9ball and he was strummin me. He asked if I
needed weight with a sh;t eating grin. I got mad told him you got the
7, and i settled down, dug in and beat him.He was awestruck!

Sometimes a bad game is a good game.
In my early 20s, I gave a man some unreasonable weight....
...everybody in the room knew I was an underdog.
But I knew this guy from poker, he wouldn't let me go off.

If he won the first game and I won the second, he'd quit.
If he won the first two and I won the third, he'd quit.
If he won the first three, he'd quit.

But if it was my day, he'd go off like a rocket.

I beat him maybe three or four times in twelve starts....
....and I'm up a few thousand...:happydance:

Wait, so you gave a guy the weight he wanted and still got the money and sent him running off with his tail between his legs, and you're complaining?

Why do you play pool, if not for just that? Please tell me it's not for monetary gain, I thought you were smarter than that.

I have a friend that I give up all the breaks and the 7 ball plus a game in 9 ball on a Valley 7 foot. We play 6 games to 7. Play for 100-400 a set. Look sometimes you just lose, it can be to rolls or the table just hates you. The last 2 times I play him with this spot I did what I was supposed to do. Played better safes, smart pushouts and hardly missed 5 makable balls in 8 hours. Made some nice scores and had emphatic wins. What do I give up next time??? If I give 2 games the race would need to be 7-9 or 9-10. If we do that then the bet will need to be enough to warrant the long race. Hes not a bad shooter. My runout percentage and execution is far superior. I have to adjust in order to keep the game, so he will get something more.

Ahh, the dark downside of being MD State Champion!

Gotta hide it

If you are going to steal do it right. Beat them until they quit. But bet them up first. The last step is most important step of all.
Nick :)

It isn't just one matchup I refer to, it seems to happen with some regularity to me.

Maybe I need to offer a little more than they ask for?
:thud:

Given your last performance it's probably hard to get a game,,, So I will step up to the plate take the 5 the last 3 and the break and promise not to ask to adjust

pulling up quick is what most players do in the last 20yrs or so. not many players in your area will stay and play. I played a guy 3 races to 7, he quit saying that he was tired because that was a 'long' session...lol.1 foul, short races, pool rooms that close, all contribute to todays culture of hit-@-run players. only thing to try today is to play freeze-out, which hardly anyone will do. closest thing I've had is post for 3 races, but no one will play until someone wins all 3.
good luck BB
you were born too late
the ;golden age ' of pool is long over

You give up weight because you want the action.

Personally I would rather give a spot then get one,but whatever you have to do to make a game is how it is.

One local player I know likes to say "if you need wight to play me then you need to wait to play me"...I just tell him if he wants the money he will give/take a spot.

I'm fine with adjusting spots, but I try to only do it every 3 games/sets. So if I'm giving a guy the last 2, we'll play 3 sets. If I win the sets 2-1 or 3-0, then I'll give him more weight. If I lose the sets, then I give him less weight or we play even.

It's stupid to adjust after a single game or set.
